Co-trainer Mark Purdon described Smolda's sixth win from seven harness racing starts at Alexandra Park in Auckland tonight (Friday 2nd February) as the perfect preparation for next week's $250,000 Woodlands Stud Northern Derby. The Courage under Fire gelding was a gutsy winner of the $15,000 first Derby heat for 3-year-old pacers.
