I don't know how Chain of Command is ranked 6th, he has won one Group 1 race (Tasmanian Cup) which was versus a very weak group 1 field. Other than that he had never even raced in group races. How is he possibly ranked above any of these other horses in the top 20, there is no way Chain of Command would gain a start in a Miracle Mile or NZ cup at the moment so how is he possibly ranked 6th. Beats me.

Paying $51 and $14 on the tote which good value for the 6th ranked horse.

Can anyone explain to me how the rankings are done? I know Auckland Reactor went no good in America but surely an Auckland Cup, several derbys, nz race records and group wins would have him ranked above Chain of Command a horse who has only ever raced in one group race, nothing against Chain of Command but I can't see him making the final and think it is a disgrace that he is considered the 6th best chance of winning the interdoms.

When Mr Feelgood and Bonos Best first came over they were ranked according to what they had done in America. While we all know we didn't see the true Auckland Reactor in America, the fact of the matter is that he couldn't win a high condition race let alone and open, invite or grand circuit race and since in the past American horses recent runs have been taken into account I am sure they have done the same thing for Auckland Reactor. Purely on his America runs, his latest form, I think he is ranked where he should be, a horse out of form.

Inter Dominion First Rankings
The first round of Inter Dominion rankings for the forthcoming Addington series were released today by the HRNZ NPC/Handicapper, Darrin Williams.
The Inter Dominion ranking system is as follows.
RANKING SYSTEM
Horses will be ranked by the Handicapper of Harness Racing New Zealand and such final rankings will determine the horses that will participate in the Championships.
Horses shall be ranked in the following descending order:
i. Current Inter Dominion Champion
ii. Current Australasian Grand Circuit Champion
iii. Current form of other horses, giving priority to:
a. Winners of current season Australian and New Zealand Grand Circuit races.
b. Winners of current season open age Group 1 events
iv. Northern Hemisphere based horses that nominate for the Championships will be allocated a ranking order at the discretion of the Handicapper of HRNZ.
“The 2011 edition of the Inter Dominion Championship promises to be as exciting as ever with the very best Standardbreds on hand from throughout Australasia,” Mr Williams said.
“All of the five Scandinavian based trotters originally nominated have been withdrawn. These being Global Investment, Hot Tub, Inzaghi, Joker CN, and Keep On Flying.”
“A late payment has been made for Annicka, a Scandinavian based trotter trained by Jorgen Westholm. She has won 12 of her 33 starts to date, and been placed a further 9 times, amassing 2.67 million Swedish Krona (approximately NZ $503,000)”
“The inclusion of this well credentialed mare will certainly add tremendous spice to a very strong trotters section of the series.”
“With respect to the Pacers Inter Dominion rankings, priority following the Inter Dominion Champion and Australasian Grand Circuit Champion is given to current season Australasian Grand Circuit races, and winners of current season open aged Group 1 events. With respect to the Rosslands Queen Of Hearts (G1) Free For All at Alexandra Park on 17 December 2010, whilst this race is restricted to Fillies and Mares, it is also an open aged Group 1 event. The winner, De Lovely, has therefore been afforded the same priority as other current season open aged Group 1 winners”.
“Other horses that have been placed (2nd, 3rd, or 4th) in current season open aged Group 1 events have also been looked on favourably, given the status of these races, within Australia and New Zealand.”
“Inter Dominion nominees will have opportunities to advance within the rankings prior to the final ranking release”, said Mr Williams.
Further rankings will be released as follows:
Second Rankings Released 3.00pm Tuesday 1 February 2011
Third Rankings Released 3.00pm Tuesday 22 February 2011
Final Rankings Released 3.00pm Monday 14 March 2011

Just goes to show the calibre of the Tasmania Cup.. woeful..

Ok surely there should be some discretion and common sense shown though. Based on this system a Tasmanian Cup is equal to a Miracle Mile or Victorian Cup. Only two other horses (Vegas Bound and Thomas Pyke) from the Tasmanian Cup are even nominated for the interdoms showing the strength of this "grand circuit" race and Chain of Command has never even raced against any of the to 10 horses.

Good luck to the connections of Chain of Command. You can only beat what turns up, a grand circuit win is a grand circuit win. Nothing worse than people dismissing your horse in what would have obviously been a highlight for connections :( A great training performance too :)

I wish the connections all the best the horse has done a great job in Australia so far and a group 1 win is never easy.. i just think the system needs some adjustment. Maybe I will be proven wrong and Chain of Command will make the final.
