It may well be a politically motivated story, but it only confirms to me what most of us already know. It doesn't have to always be about economies of scale. The people should come first and, if as reported, there have been massive crowd increases all around rural Victorian communities I am not suprised. Without having seen any figures, country NSW major meetings have also been extremely well patronised this season, (the Eugowra meeting looked massive for one).
So just a word to the wise. Look how harness racing in Qld, outside the Brisbane metrop circuit, has withered, died and officially become extinct because of exclusive, selfish and heartless administration.
Exclude country clubs at your own peril. It is the breeding ground and grassroots of harness racing. Nurture it and it will bear fruit. The proof is there for all to see. Harness does exist outside metropolitan tracks.
