Bankstown's Pigeons will be among the hardest hit under plans unveiled by Harness Racing New South Wales (HRNSW) supremo Sam Nati to slash the number of harness races held at Bankstown in 2012/13.
Responding to an announcement by the HRNSW chief executive Sam Nati, a well-known Pigeon hater - at the HRNSW Industry Consultation held at Menangle on Friday, April 27th, 2012 a spokeman said ‘Despite a massive multi-million dollar windfall to harness racing in NSW following the High Court success of race fields legislation - which effectively sees HRNSW amass a $40 million racecourse development war chest - Mr Nati still wants to come down hard on our dear feathered friends by slashing 56 races from Bankstown just to save some money that is desperately needed to feed, clothe and house thousands and thousands of Pigeons - the poor, downtrodden road peckers - Pigeons who now face the prospect of lengthy queues at Bankstown Square and surrounds hoping against hope for the odd dropped chip, cast- off crust from someone's lunchtime sandwich or the nothing short of a Pigeon feast which arises when the arse end falls out of a Donner Kebab.
On top of that, it will mean the end of our extensive Guano mining operations and this can't be allowed to happen. Thousands of Farmers across Australia reply on the Guano mined at Bankstown which is subsequently refined & turned into Super Phosphate used to fertilize their paddocks.
The proposed Bankstown harness race cuts are coupled with plans to force the merger - or "Natification" - of the Bankstown, Fairfield and Penrith Pigeon flocks (as reported by Harnesslink (http://www.harnesslink.com/www/Article.cgi?ID=97216)) is genetic madness because Bankstown's Pigeons are a unique breed and will not cross at all well with Pigeons to the West and North West of Sydney.
The HRNSW board is once again called upon to immediately rule out these two strategies which will sound the death knell of Sydney's most highly regarded Pigeon population, a spokesman said.
