Wow. At Menangle this afternoon Blitzthemcalder took 2.3 seconds off Sheer Illusion's Australian 2YO trot record mile rate , running 1:59.7

Look forward to seeing him go even faster in the future.

Geeze, that's something you don't see every day. A son of Metropolitan from a Balanced Image mare...and can Trot like a machine too. Damline's that of Maori's Idol etc.

So the first 2yo trotter to break 2 minutes in the southern hemisphere?

No.. Possibly Oz but in NZ Flying Isa (c&g) went 1:59.3 last year while Joanne (f) went 1:58.5 in 2001.
They are current Nz records so probably / possibly more have done it.

I really think that records now need to be segregated, into Menangle only and then all other tracks!

I really think that records now need to be segregated, into Menangle only and then all other tracks! Further to this, yearling guides should at least post what track the dams fastest time was in. People should be doing more research than just the yearling guide but I think with Menangle now being in place the variance in a good time from track to track is so much that it would be beneficial to write the track for at least the dams fastest time.

I can also remember for stallion advertising, that when a US stallion came here, it said it's fastest time and what size track it was........maybe they could state their best times over different track sizes?

Time only matters when you are doing it. Who you beat, how you do it, what races you win and how much $ you earn carries the weight. The rest is merely pleasant window dressing.

No one thing by itself carries much weight...a few things put together carries weight. One of those things has to be time.
You can see from day dot a debutant who leads all the way in winning a 2C0 in the bush for $4500 in 1.59 is pretty smart. That didn't satisfy any of your criteria of who they beat, how they done it, or the race and $$$. The fast time isn't just window dressing.
My example isn't that bizarre either...point in case = Frith. The Frith that won at Young is the same Frith that won at Bathurst. Time is an indicator...what if Frith broke down after winning at Leeton or the Bathurst heat? She hadn't beat anyone or earnt much $$$ to that stage so to you she wouldn't carry much weight. Time is more than just window dressing.

Times not always a true indication of ability.Backed a horse called Vautin for the grandkids one night at Newcastle. He sat two back on the fence and smoked a pipe while they went berserk around him.Got a dream run along the fence to win and posted 1.57 and change.Subsequently proved he couldn't break 2.00 down a well and never won another race as far as I know. Was from Qld.

That said, Paul Vautin carries a lot of weight!
