G'day all

Fortunately we had a surprisingly great meeting on Monday afternoon. For a cool to cold work day afternoon, the crowd that turned up was really quite amazing. We sold out of race books, the bar was virtually sold out and the kitchen did a roaring trade. On such occasions it gives us a glimmer of hope that not all is lost.

For those who wanted to check the action of the day have a look at this website. Lance is a professional photographer who popped over and took over 1100 photographs...http://www.oz-webs.com/index.php?module=media&pId=100&category=gallery/Sports/HarnessRacing/Goulburn/15_May_2012

Congratulations to Mark who took out the colts Breeders Challenge heat with Waldenburg, impressive winner!

Regards and best wishes

Thanks very much Mark . Congratulations to you and the Goulburn club on running a great days racing with packed fields on a 10 race card . Thats the biggest success of the day . We were unable to attend but watched all of the races on Sky . The track raced really well giving all the participants an even chance . Our horse went just super and all the credit goes to Blake with a great drive by Darren . Major Post did alot of work . He went really well . Magic Bliss ran an eye opener . Snap To It ran a very tough race . They are all going to be major forces when the semis come around . The photo gallery is a fantastic idea with some great action shots . Every horse gets exposure . Thanks again . Mark & Trish

Is it true that Raymond Moroney won Fashions In The Field?
He always said those grey immitation leather zip up at the front moccasions would come back into style and that those green corduroy flares & Tweed Sports Coat with the leather elbow patches would come in handy one day.

Jaimie,

He packed them up and darted off to the Barrier Reef for a spot of fishing on one of those charter boats. He was going to wear it to dinner, he's quite the dresser our man Ray. If you really want to get offside with him call him Raymond

Fashions On The Field aside, the biggest talking point should be the fact that every single race produced a sub 2 minute mile rate...The works effected to the track last year have produced some great results and the club must be thrilled with the outcomes....

[VVV] Sorry Fred, I got myself a bit sidetracked there hassling Ray ;), my apologies.
You're right on the money. The Goulburn Club & its many supporters should be congratulated as they have created an excellent track out of literally nothing. No doubt they're absolutely thrilled with the result. In its initial stages I recall they struggled & struggled just to get it off the ground essentially in the face of there not being much if any interest at official level at the time.
Undaunted & notably with very strong local support they progressed and then when it was actually race ready they struggled to get racing dates allocated to them & so on & so on. It has for them been an uphill battle all the way. By virtue of their individual and collective hard work and perserverance they have essentially gifted that track to Harness Racing in this State and for that the NSW Industry is forever in their debt.
Three Cheers for you and the whole crew down there Mark. Well done!

Hi Fred

Thanks for your kind words, I posted the following on another forum. There were 10 races and the slowest rate of the day was 1:59.9 whilst the fastest 1:56.5!

Re-cambering the track, which I understand is unique in its design, is the best value for money decision we have made. Graham Maher designed it in consultation with a local earthworks company, Divalls Earthmoving & Bulk Haulage. The material we used was sourced within minutes of the track
and is the highest quality crusher dust you will find anywhere.

Can't wait for our Carnival of Cups meeting next April, I'm absolutely dead sure that times will get quicker still. Luke McCarthy has described it as the equal to any 1000m track he has driven on in the world; naturally we're chuffed:-)
