Any opinions on the sire Artesian?

I saw his best one to date was David Hercules. I did see some photos of an amazing colt by him posted on www.flickr.com

Thank you

David Hercules very nice horse and has won $322,00

Artesian stats
360 foals
28 winners
$740,000

So if you take David Hercules out that means the rest of them have a combined earnings of $418,000 which is pretty average and winners to foals percentage is only 13%.

Too many people don't look deep enough when evaluating a stallion. If your going to be a stats guy at least look deep. That is what i do. The horse had amazing early speed and has great looks. Many of his foals out of less then average mares look great. How would his offspring be if he saw the mares Rocking Roll Hanover, Cams Card Shark, Somebeachsomewhere and Art Major see? Of course this can be said for many other studs who people look past because of this issue.

Hi trotpace,
Artesian stood at Alabar in Australia and at Tarahills stud in Canada, not many studs better at getting mares for sires. The mares he bred were no more or no less than what you would expect for a horse of his calibre.
He has IMO had as good, if not a better start to his stud career than alot of sires. No excuses.
You are correct that he looks good and his foals also look good, it is just a shame that looks do not always guarantee ability:)

Hi Mango, Jorg is Best looked a good one but went a miss unfortunately.

Hi Jusdoit
Your correct and if a stallion can't make it at those studs he will never make it anywhere, i know a few people that have had progeny by Artesian and they class them a little on the weak side. And Jorg Is Best looked to have the goods before his untimely death as an early 3yr old and the mare he was out of Intoxicating was a very handy mare from a strong family.

Hi Trotpace
Even though he didn't get the top run of mare's he should still of done a better job than what his stats show. There has been lesser stallions than Artesian who got below average mare's but still put the runs on the board better than him.

Hi Buster
Intoxicating is a terrific mare but i cant see how she has thrown one as good as Jorg Is Best.

Jorg Is Best 8 starts 4 wins 3 places best m.r 1.55.6 as a 2yr old and raced in group 1 company.

Mister Sheedy 1 start 1 win best m.r 2.03.9 winning at Nyah.

I'm not saying he won't turn out to be a good horse but at present he isn't anywhere in the same class Jorg was.
