De Lovely led early. Handed up to Monkey King inside the first 400. They set a fair tempo without being breakneck. Highview Tommy worked to the spot outside the leader at the 1100. On turning for home, De Lovely charged through along the sprint lane and won very impressively running away from Highview Tommy and Monkey King. On that effort, with the right run in the Auckland Cup and Inter Dominion she would have to be rated a genuine chance to win these races.
