Check race 2. In NSW they don't. 30m wasn't quite a big enough margin.

I am not going to take anything away from Smoken Up either, I was cheering allllll the way up the straight for him!!!
His going inside the pegs hardly compares to Nathan Jack on Eurasian Hanover at Melton last week and he held the race (as I pointed out on another thread that no-one was interested in commenting on). http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-results.cfm?mc=MX040113&ms=vic#MXM04011312
Nobody wants to say anything until it occurs in a major race and all of sudden its worthy of discussion. Again, it is the inconsistency of enforcement by the powers that be that creates grey areas that drivers can capitalise on. They are the ones who are failing here.
Once again, great win by the champ...did my heart good. Thumbs down to Adam Mitch who tarnished Come On Franks Facebook page this morning with his comment of "beaten by a cheat (justice) no shame in that"... pretty weak to post derogatory stuff on the SA hometown heros page.

Wow great race, great fight by both horses!!!
Trigger obviously the ultimate fighter congrats on equalling another great staying fighter Gammalites record of 4 SA Cups.
Caribbean Blaster fantastic to death seat, grabbed the lead, but just wilted in the last 30m, we will see a lot more from this guy in the next coming years.
And to those who question why Trigger wouldn't go to Perth to face Captain Invincible... Have u heard of sentiment?
Lance is from SA, he was shooting for 4 Cups...sometimes and rarely, it's more about these things than money...

No worries Rod,
If any driver blatantly goes beyond the pegs like half a cart to obviously gain an advantage then that's wrong, it's also stupid because its blatantly obvious and he/she gets a holiday immediately.
But if Quinn, Smoken Up, a CO horse in the country goes where Trigger went in the SA Cup, from what I could see about 2-3 inches beyond only 2 pegs AND IMPORTANTLY wins by a clear margin that did not gain a sufficient advantage to be questioned by any other runner, then Quinn, Trigger the CO horse win the race. It was clear that no sufficient advantage was gained to me to effect the outcome.
However if Trigger won by a nose then Caribbean Blaster has every right to protest.
There u go Rod, how's that?

have a closer look and count it was more than 2 pegs not just the last turn it happened on same corner lap before bell too

Yes Greg saw that too mate.
So do u believe that gave Trigger the advantage that caused him to win the race?
Do u think if he didn't go inside those 4 pegs that he wouldn't have won?

going inside marker pegs is considered advantage just like new whip rule you can loose race on whip action
stewards report says contact pegs what do you call going over them and keep driving without correcting
as i said from beginnig great race take nothing away from winner
and yes unfair advantage loose race

Everyone knows that Smoken Up does not handle the bends well. When a horse like him is uncomfortable on the bend and wanting to drift down the track, it will tend to lose ground the more you try to keep it straight.
It is possible, likely even, that Carribean Blaster would have pinched a bigger break if Lance had done what he should have done according to the rules and not allow SU to drift down inside the pegs.
He could easily have been disqualified IMO

Following the running of this event, Stewards conferred regarding to an incident on the final turn where SMOKEN UP NZ’s sulky contacted and got over a number of marker pegs when racing to the inside of CARIBBEAN BLASTER. It was established that SMOKEN UP NZ had initially lugged in with CARIBBEAN BLASTER, which was racing marginally forward of SMOKEN UP NZ, also shifting inwards to race tight to SMOKEN UP NZ’s outer with contact then being made with the marker pegs prior to driver Kate Gath relieving the pressure just prior to straightening for the run home. In considering the matter the Panel were of the opinion that SMOKEN UP NZ had not gained an unfair advantage which affected the outcome of the race and All Clear was given on the Judge’s placings. Drive Lance Justice stated when questioned that SMOKEN UP NZ had not handled the final turn and confirmed that he had not been able to shift away from the pegs until CARIBBEAN BLASTER had shifted back up the track. He also stated that SMOKEN UP NZ had been briefly inconvenienced early in the run home when CARIBBEAN BLASTER shifted in marginally.

There is no way that he got a big enough advantage that it changed the race result.
CB had every opportunity to win especially when SUp was under pressure going around that last corner which he never handles.
Good on ya Lance!!!

so true Geoff,
its a shame other people cant simply assess a race or horses performance based on the physical facts and mathematics of a horses skill speed and stamina. Its a fact mathematically that he didnt get sufficient advantage for there to be a possible question of doubt to be raised, end of story, the winner won fair and square over a courageous runner up who will do many more courageous and tougher things in his career.
Emotion and 1 eyed blinkered vision sometimes impair peoples minds.
