Was at Albion Park last October, specifically to watch Terrorway go around in the Be Good Johnny Sprint, little did I realise he was only going to be a bit player that night. Destreos sat parked for half the race before allowing Terrorway roll to the death. Urged along down the back, off the bit on the bend, Destreos pulled three wide and put them all away...had to be one of his finest wins in 1.52.9 if you don't mind. I was down on the fence as they thundered past me, but for the length of the straight, the only thing I could hear were his connections perched in the top right hand corner of the grandstand screaming their guts out for him. The fact he was 33/1 that night may well have contributed to their volume. Now James, were you one of those noisy bastards drowning out Barsby that night lol?

The missus and I were holidaying in NZ during the Interdom carnival in 2011, one night at the Club on the grounds of Alexandra Park I bumped into a really nice bloke, Bob McAuley, who told me he had sold the horse Destreos to Australia after having a more lucrative sale to US interests fall through due to the horse failing the VET TEST, there was a perceived soundness issue!!

At the time Bob was bit dark about the whole thing because the horse had been racing in OZ for a couple of years and won over 100K, you can well imagine how dark he is now the horse has raced on like he has.....anyway I don't think I will ever trust the vet test, it obviously couldn't have been more wrong!

I read a tweet last night from bloodstock agent Garrick Knight; he said that in 2008 a deal had been done to sell Destreos to the USA but it fell through because the vet report queried his soundness. 350 starts later...

Yesterday the Office of Racing Integrity (ORI) Stewards panel comprising of Mr R Murrihy (Chairman), Mr J Zucal and Mr A Crowther opened an inquiry into a number of matters that had been under investigation including:

-The running of Race 5 the SEA FM Mobile (2297metres) conducted at the Devonport Harness Racing Club on Friday 14 July 2017;
-The betting activities of Licensed Bookmaker and registered Owner Mr Stephen Walters and Trainer Mr Ben Yole during the course of the 2017 calendar year involving a number of harness races conducted in Tasmania;
-The procurement and use of unregistered products for the Ben Yole Racing Stable.

Incredible horse, 100th win at his 450(!) race start. 71 seconds and 64 thirds to boot.

I doubt whether he has actually done any fast work over the last decade, just a matter of racing him. As a rising 15 year old, it would be fitting to call time now.

TAS - DESTREOS NZ - Ken Rattray Inquiry 07-06-18

On Thursday 7 June 2018 stewards inquired into the results of analysis of samples taken from DESTREOS NZ prior to its competing in Race 3 at the Carrick Park Pacing Club on 31st December 2017.

Evidence was heard from representatives of Racing Analytical Services Limited and the Racing Science Centre.

Evidence was tendered by Mr Rattray in relation to his feeding regime and husbandry practices.
Mr Rattray was issued with a charge in writing on 27th March 2018 pursuant to AHRR 190(1),(2) and (4) for failing to present DESTREOS NZ free of the prohibited substance Cobalt.

Mr Rattray reserved his plea to the charge and after giving due consideration to the evidence tendered throughout the Inquiry Stewards sustained the charge.

In determining penalty Stewards took into consideration Mr Rattrays reserved plea, his licence history, including that he had five prior disqualifications for prohibited substance matters, his personal subjective circumstances and the need that any penalty reflect the serious nature of prohibited substance offences and provide both a specific and general deterrent.

Mr Rattray was disqualified for five years, commencing immediately and expiring at midnight on 6 June 2023.

Acting under the provisions of AHRR 195 Stewards ordered that DESTREOS NZ be disqualified from the subject race and the placings will be amended accordingly.

Mr Rattray has appealed against the conviction and penalty.
