Hopefully 3rd time lucky in Kiwiland for Big Blitz.
The 3 faves have drawn wide in the Northern Trotting Derby at least, so if he handles the track better this time hopefully they can see his best again like his first run there where he had the toughest run and was only sprintlaned out by 20cm!!!

Should be a great Rowe Cup too, Stent very impressive last week, can Vulcan get his mojo back?
Oh and that average horse Christen Me is Havin a run too!! :) he will smash em again!

He Won!!!
Big congrats to Ross Payne who actually drove him tonite and he smashed them.
Got to the lead, was taken on twice by Royal Aspirations who pulled too hard and finished near last
Blitz broke Soveriegntys 3yo track record by 4 seconds!!!! And was only a bees knee from Stigs record!
Habibti had the sit but could not get anywhere near him, there was no sit sprint opportunity for the filly to sprintlane him tonite cos he ran too hard too fast, he broke her.
Great win.

A very talented crop of 3yr olds. Royal Aspirations found the front which allowed him to settle a lot better. Blitzemcalder went off stride for no reason and then went super. Both horses have issues but both can run time like no 3yr olds before them. Nz records have fallen all season. Last night they broke I Can Doosits Nz record for 2200mtr. The jewels will be really interesting as over a mile at Ashburton these two could run something special.

They certainly will Viv,
whoever leads has the greatest chance, although have to think Blitz may have got Royal Aspirations if he had of trotted all the way last night.
The Jewels will again be a great race, do you know if RA is coming to Aus for Breeders, i think i read the little filly is, Habibti.

Dont know if Royal Aspirations is headed to Aussie or not. I cant recall his trainer Fred Fletcher ever taking a horse to Australia and he has trained plenty of top horses in his time such as Sundon and Roydon Glen. Royal Aspirations is a natural frontrunner and Melton would suit him bigtime but history would suggest he may not leave NZ.

Great Jewels race this weekend with Blitz drawn inside second row behind Royal Aspirations.
Go Blitz, good luck will need it from there...

Bugger!
Galloped before start, lost 60m at least, bravely ran to 3 wide outside leaders at 800, and was only 4.8m from winner who ran 1:56.5 last 800 56.7 last 400 26.9.
Royal Aspirations seemed to have every chance about 3 pegs, did nothing, disappointing.
Prime Power led won, good, but obviously Blitz was an amazing run.
The Vic Derby awaits him.

Going to have to get some manners in a hurry. For the fourth time in six starts in Nz he has gone off stride. As I stated in an earlier post Royal Aspirations and Ashburton have never got on. Just does not trot any good on that surface. Shame because those two are better than the rest but both have rather large holes in their game at the moment.

A reported $1,750,000 offer from European interests to buy Blitz straight after his last race where he was apparently timed to run his last mile in under 1:54!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Maoris, for $1.75m and if he was mine, that horse would be placed in bubble wrap, put in the cargo hold with a big bow around his neck with a little thankyou card attached which would read ... SOLD!

Struggling big time to believe the figure quoted. There is absolutely no leeway at all in Europe with regards to trotters who leave their gait at any stage. Blitzemcalder would have been disqualified in five of his last six starts in Europe. While our age group trotters have improved dramatically over the last few years , there is still a large gap between them and the American and European age group trotters. It makes no sense at all to pay that kind of money for a horse with issues to take on the best in Europe.

I am one of Blitzthemcalder's biggest fans. In fact , I started a thread in these forums after his brilliant debut 2YO win raving about his performance.

His run tonight was very disappointing , although he tried hard. At his best with that run he should have won by the length of the straight. Right now he seems tired and needs a spell. It probably will not happen but that's a personal opinion.

If that rather dubious offer for him from overseas was ever true, which is really VERY laughable, then I hope they just move on and forget it.

If he can have a well deserved break he can come back as a 4yo and show us what he is made of. I believe he will be one of our greatest ever trotters.

Wonder how he will go off the pole tonight with a bit of pressure around him...and what happened with that offer for him a few weeks ago?

Well he went pretty bloody well.
Led easy, unchallenged, won by 24.4m, MR 1:59.6.
Glenferrie Dreamer and Steal a Sixpence drew wide and had hard runs and Blitz's other main competitor Son of Sonoko drew wide second row and was great to see him putting a couple of good runs together, further fulfilling his potential.
However, based on Blitz leading, no Aussie or NZ 3yo could run him down.
Will b great to see this lot go around this Sunday at Maryborough in the Vic Derby. Barrier draws will be interesting

The big fella does it again, wins the Vic Derby, too big too good, raced in the death after a scarey quick little gallop at the start.
Good onya well deserved to everyone concerned.

Second up over 1720m, slow away from mobile probably lost 15, let loose at about 700, wins by 18.8m, MR 1:56.9!
Stayed on course after Vic Cup to watch him run around an hour later in the last race, bit chilly, was thinking of leaving after Cup but glad I stayed. A pleasure to see such an animal perform, his next year or so could be anything. Still has to improve in gate speed and general manners but time and maturity should achieve both.
Ps. Apparently 1 second outside Vulcans track record!
