Just learnt that iconic vet Percy Sykes passed away yesterday...drawing to a close an era of thoroughbred history that saw he and master trainer T J Smith form an unbeatable combination that saw TJ win more than 30 Sydney premierships.

Gee Brad Icon is the only way to describe the man as far as equine veterinary science goes, the man blazed many a trail, almost as may as the people endebted to his work.

Great man with horses and was always the go to guy when trainers were in trouble. I recall backing Igloo at Warwick Farm when I was a young fella, He was first up after a very long absence, 2 years or more. Dr Sykes performed a very large miracle to get this horse back to the races.
