Wouldn't it be great to own a horse like Destreos(NZ) He was born in 2003 and has had 305 starts for 70 wins and 98 placings for total prizemoney of $552,700 with a best time of 1.52.9. He has never been a Superstar but pretty handy and has given his owners a lot of enjoyment. It would be fantastic to have a horse that run around so often and averages around $1812 in winnings per race start and still has a few years of racing left as long as he stays sound. A really amazing achievement.

Great point Rich.

I know nothing about owner Sally Stingel other than the fact that she must surely be one of the winners in our sport. How she must marvel at the wonderful ride that Destreos has given her and how she could never have expected it after his Aussie debut where he settled 5/5 and finished last 27m behind second last. To be fair it was a Gp3 for 4yo's at Redcliffe but it was an inauspicious beginning. However check out the careers of this field:

1st Be Diligent 102st - 33w - 32pl - $308,866 - BWMR 1.52.8 (He had an amazing 3yo season where he won most of his stakes)

2nd Fleur De Lil 101st - 39w - 30pl - $1,046,636 - BWMR 1.51.4 (Champion 2-3yo filly)

3rd Arkamigo 87st - 23w - 25pl - $293,474 - BWMR 1.56.2 (Won Gp races at 2-3-4yo)

4th Il Tenore 118st - 24w - 34pl - $170,114 - BWMR 1.55.7 (Star 2yo and when he recorded BWMR)

So it turns out they were all precocious juveniles and DESTREOS HAD IT ALL BEFORE HIM

No disgrace finishing 5th behind that line up, All pretty smart juvenile's as you pointed out Kev. Sally must be over the moon with the great job that Destreos has done and his longevity is amazing.

An aside to this, the one who must be obeyed and I had a lovely holiday in the land of the long white cloud, taking in,( as I had negotiated) the last set of heats anf the final of the 2011 inter that was meant to be at Christchurch, but had been relocated to Aukland.

getting to the point slowly..

Met a terrific bloke who owned Destreos(NZ) and he was descibing how hard it was tro pass a vet test for sales to the USA as this horse had failed that test quite a few times, but even THEN he was complaining how the horse must have been sound as he had at that point delivered some very good results.

I'll bet Bob is still spewing, because the horse, despite his age and many other factors is still going strong,.
