Tabcorp-owned Sky Racing has shed around 40 jobs in a restructure that will see a number of its magazine shows axed and coverage of racing expanded to 20 hours.
Inside Racing and Trials and Tribulations are among the programs expected to go as the channel looks to increase its focus on “wagering and our racing partners”.
Off the Beaten Track, GG Girls and Racing Around the World are also said to be history with new “operating procedures” enabling the expansion of racing with 8am starts and 4am finishes.
Among the roles to be made redundant include three presenters/race callers, three producers, five IT staff, three editors and three producers.
A letter sent to unions from Tabcorp said the restructure results from “an imperative to move towards a 24/7 business”.
Such a move reflects the “greater number of hours required for racing thus enhancing our role as a key enabler for the Tabcorp wagering business”, unions were told.
In a letter to staff obtained by Mumbrella, Brendan Parnell, chief operating officer for Tabcorp Media and International division, said: “It is a strategic imperative to move towards a 24/7 business with a greater span of hours for racing thus enhancing our role as a key enabler for our wagering business.
“This positions us to deliver on our strategy, be more efficient and effective and importantly assist our wagering business to compete effectively in a challenging environment.”
There will be three “functional” areas of the business, he continued – broadcast operations and technology, channels and international.
The revised structure, the result of a Media Workforce Transformation program, will provide “increased focus on the critical growth engine of international and increased alignment with wagering”, Parnell wrote.
Among the changes involved a review of “ancillary programmes during the winter recess to refine our focus on wagering and our racing partners”.
There will also be new “operating procedures” to enable its racing coverage to expand from 8am to 4am.
Gerard Brown, organiser at the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) estimated that around 8 to 10 per cent of the Sky Racing’s permanent workforce has been axed in the restructure, some of whom he suggested have been poorly remunerated despite many years of loyal service.

and Harness Racing has sold their soul to them.

I've worked in M&A in the finance industry for two decades, here and in the States. In the last week or so, using past and awaiting current financials for NSW and VIC, I've started to crunch the numbers. The underlying trend 11/12 into 12/13 is concerning.

Brendan Parnell "It is a strategic imperative to move towards a 24/7 business with a greater span"
of hours for racing

Interesting that the early USA race yesterday had $445 in the NSW win pool and $119 in the Vic win pool. there was $599 in the NSW Trifecta pool but it paid $996.20 almost double what was in the pool by the skyracing web site ?

Looks like it is imperative to be making a loss on racing. Must be real cheap to broadcast racing from the USA?

At least the late night harness pools are respectable from France etc, most of the time. Doubt that there will be any money around at 4 am though.

$400 in the win pool in a 4 horse novice hurdle from Ireland at 3am this morning.

Interesting (well interesting at 3am!) that the place pool kept on increasing (think was a late scratching). At one point $2 favourite paying $13 the place. Keep watching just for 'interest'. Place pool kept going up, price went down. Sky flash the dividends up after race. Winner pays $3.40 win and $6.60 place.

Nek minnit.... Sky flash dividends up again.... changed to NPP (no place pool am guessing).

:confused::confused:

The quaddie pool on French trots tonight when first leg went away.....in NSW $2. In Vic $7.

Pick 4 winners and get $2 less their take. If you get it by yourself!

If no one gets it will jackpot to next week!!

They are vary wary our TAB (Sportsbet) - they consider a bet on the winner of the Tour de France 'betting in the run' and you can only do it over the phone not on the net. I am not talking about while they are racing, they will take stage bets online however.

No winners. NSW 'Jackpot' next week... $1. Vic $8.

Doing the form already!

Congratulations to whoever got the running double on the last 2 races. It jackpoted all night and for an $11 winner into a $20 winner the lucky punter got $128.

Well done Luke, I hope he keeps it up Paul. Like many I dropped French for all the maths and sciences and now realize it would have been far more useful/interesting to have now than what they have been.
LOL How could I forget about Palais Du Louvre (also one of the most interesting places I have visited)
