I haven't watched the Albion Park replay but surely the drive could not have been as hard as this - from Albury last Friday, watch the horse inside the second row, yellow wheel discs.

Stewards Report quote... "Driver M Burns pleaded guilty to the charge. Given Driver M Burn’s relative inexperience and his two suspensions for causing interference during his drive on SOUL DANCER in race 5, Stewards suspended his licence to drive in races until he was able to demonstrate that he had the necessary skills to drive in races through driving satisfactorily in trials. HRNSW Stewards would be advising the Victorian Stewards of the action taken.
video replay of race 5 where he copped a 28 day holiday and then in the same race also a 14 day holiday http://www.trotstv.com.au/?mc=AL250714&rn=5

Hi Ash, Did that guy steer his horse onto the grass on the inside of the track??? I could'nt imagine all of the other horses running off and giving him a saloon passage.

Hi Ash, Did that guy steer his horse onto the grass on the inside of the track??? I could'nt imagine all of the other horses running off and giving him a saloon passage.

Stewards Report quote..."Driver M Burns stated that WASHIES CHANCE NZ commenced to over race approaching the 1200 metres and he was unable to control the gelding and he stated he called out for room and the drivers ahead of him eased out to avoid any interference. He further stated that he attempted to shift WASHIES CHANCE NZ down inside the marker pegs in order to let the field go past him as he knew he had gained an unfair advantage but he was unable to obtain a satisfactory grip to control the gelding. M Burns further added that racing down the home straight approaching the 800 metres he again tried to shift WASHIES CHANCE NZ inside the marker pegs but was unable to do so and that leaving the 600 metres he shifted WASHIES CHANCE NZ out in order to not hinder the rest of the field for the remainder of the race and was trying to retire the gelding from the event."
Seemed to lose control because he didn't look to me to be holding the reigns with a suitable grip considering the horse was supposed to be "pulling". I didn't see him laying out the back of the cart attempting to restrain the horse. Based on his body language in the cart he simply lost a sufficient grip and the horse first took off a bit and ran into the horse in front, then as he tried to get a better grip, he couldn't and then the horse pushed up the inside lane and he had lost it.
Credit to him for pulling wide and trying to get out of everybody's way later on.

Surely if something as serious as dropping a rein happened, it would of been mentioned in the stewards report???

Looks more like they slipped rather than dropped.

My track driving days are long gone but on the surface I think the stewards were correct it just looked a totally incompetent drive either through inability to control the horse or set the cart up, at no stage did he lean back and try and restrain, he either just sat up and went to the pegs, shudder to think if we were still in the hub rail days.

I felt sorry for him. No one sets out to do that. Imagine your first 2 drives in races, and that happening. All I can say is that he must have been pretty nervous.

It reminded me of an old movie with Lee Marvin, Cat Ballou when I saw the first race and I was pretty hard on the guy, I apologise for that Mr Burns and I hope things pan out for you.
PS: Any of you younger guys that have never seen the movie, Flick it up on You Tube and check out Jane Fonda in her prime, Well worth a look.

We will have to see matching pedigree for it to qualify for the brilliant naming thread Nathan ;)
