Shayne Cramp 162 winners
David Aiken 133
Emma Stewart 130
Were the ton breakers
Dean Braun long ago suspended still finished 4th with 86.5
while the other suspended trainer Glenn Douglas still finished 13th with 47
601 Trainers won at least 1 race
but for 199 of them it was just the 1 win
and for another 100 it was just 2 wins
86 trained 10 or more winners
while only 38 trained 20 or more
My db shows 3804 races for Vic with 389 of them being Metro stakes
It is a tough game
ps This is only Vic wins so some trainers would have more wins than on my db esp Interstate raiders
by next week http://www.harness.org.au/hra/annual/public/drivers/trnrs-all-1314.pdf
should be updated and give you full Australian stats for all trainers for the season

I only decided to keep the Vic trainers database going for 2014-15 because I thought it would be easy with all the names already entered
In just 2wks I have had to add 11 trainers who had not won in 2013-14 but have already got on the scoreboard

Fascinating that 199 people only trained one winner. With all the doom and gloom talk we hear about how there are less and less people involved in the industry it is amazing to see such a large number of people, and assuming they would mainly be "hobby" enthusiasts too.

You might think so Kyle but the attached snips from HRA online shows a terrible decline
A bit blurry I know so in summary
2012-13 Vic had 1,302 Trainers and likely < 2,000 foals
1981-82 Vic had 2,285 Trainers and exactly 6,575 foals

These figures show what happens when you go after quality over quantity!

Probably but it is undoubtedly also a case of less people involved :(
ps Maybe it is the reason why I cannot get anyone from The Victorian Trainers & Drivers Association to reply to my emails !

Rochester's Garry Coghill has got off to a flyer this season, training 3 winners in the first 3 weeks after only training 2 winners for the whole of 2013-14

Kevin could you find out how many races were run in the 81/82 season compared to last season. I suppose there would be figures somewhere for amount of starters in them 2 seasons 22years apart

I found this on HRA's Annual online Greg
http://www.harness.org.au/hra/annual/public/stats/stakes_info.pdf
It goes back to 87-8 which gives you a 25yr spread
As you can see Total Races has been up and down without too much of a decline
It also provides Starter numbers and Starts (only 20yrs worth from 93-94)
If you divide Total starts by number of races you will even get average field size
20yrs ago in 93-4 the average was 9.57
2012-12 the average was 9.28
