What horse will become the next peoples' favorite to replace Smoken Up now that he has retired? I know I'm The Mighty Quinn is one but who is the up and coming crowd favorite? I suppose the next generation star.

Smoken

What a hard task they have..
I'd say Guaranteed and Lenny The Shark are building up a following and rivalry. I'm sure there are quire a few others that potentially can reach that status over time.

Come on Frank must be one to mention

I can see where you are coming from Adam. Does the "people's favorite " horse have that extra something in the fact that the human connection to the horse also appeals to the crowd. Paleface Adios and Colin Pike, Village Kid and Bill Horne, Popular Alm and Vin Knight, Blacks A Fake and Natalie, Smoken Up and Lance. No one could doubt the appeal of Come On Frank and his family.

Might be a good call Steve

Interesting read

http://www.harnesslink.com/News/Making-up-for-lost-time

It would also be interesting to know why after not racing until he was 5½ he went back to the paddock until he was virtually 7

Here is his first start

It has been said on Twitter that Leaky never raced until 5 because of injury, immaturity and greenness.

Showed a little bit of that last night, might be a while before he starts $1.40 again

Not a bad run after bombing the start and maybe thrown in the deep end a touch early.

I dont want this to sound like Lauren bashing but after settling about 40m off lead I could not believe she would not take 4f(which became 3f) when it was in the offing as her best chance was to be able to run a place (distant).

By what Philadelphia Man did last night I think it looks like all he has to do is stay sound (fingers crossed) to achieve this distinction. What a run after two years away from the races (1:53:4), and some training effort as well.

BUMP

His name would seem to have been influenced by a gallops 'Peoples' Favourite' (and no doubt due to his appearance too) and the way he won tonight he could be an absolute star of the future

Apache Shark

There is probably a story behind his limited juvenile career

I noticed a real good one in the family tree = Shez Ryleymak a half sis to this one's dam
Although the dam Mustbeheaven was only a 2004 foal, Apache is her last foal

Check out tonight's win

Really cool seeing peoples predictions before these horses were famous..

They should be household names though throughout the public. I'm gonna make it my goal to make a horse a public figure if I ever come back to Aus.

“I’ve been all around the world and seen the best of the best, most of them in the flesh, and this horse is next level. He’s the best I’ve seen, anywhere, and that includes horses like Niatross and Nihilator"

As pointed out in the following link, at this stage it is ridiculous for Alabar's Alan Galloway to say Ride High is the best horse he has ever seen

A half century beckons for the little Bull

Chicago Bull goes into the race with a winning sequence of six and a remarkable record at Gloucester Park of 67 starts for 49 wins, nine seconds, seven thirds and two fourths.

Stylish Memphis was outstanding and looked a class above every other 3 year old filly contesting the Victorian and New South Wales Oaks last summer. Second up in an open class stand at Addington, she did all the work and was run down on the line in 3:08.9 for 2600. Yes, from a stand. Superb run from a four year old mate.

Tonight, she took on her stablemate Plutonium Lady (runner up in the Northern Oaks) and one other in a non-betting heat of the Nevele R Series. The big question about Stylish Memphis was had she improved enough to finally beat her nemisis Amazing Dream. The answer - no. Amazing Dream appears to have got even better. Watch this for a nice piece of trackwork for the little head-down running machine.

She is an absolute little star, robbed by 1 vote of th NZ horse of the year award by the COVID enforced shut down in March. I'm hoping she comes to Melton and Menangle for the rich mares features later on.

Replace a couple of them with Ladies In Red, Tough Tilly and Major Moth and we would have a dream race of future stars

Magnificent Storm looks to be some horse. Wouldn't forget Patronus Star just yet either. Bull going to have his hands full when those two start racing in the FFAs. Throw in Shockwave and WA pretty strong at the moment with top end talent.

I spruiked it a long, long time ago!

Tonight proved that the many, so called, experts are a mainly ignorant and lazy. I mean, how hard is it to get on the HRNZ website and watch her races? Darren Clayton didn't rate her and predicted she would be 1x5 at the bell. Forget how she flew out from 3 a fortnight ago before dropping in behind Krug for an identical win. Didn't even mention her. Copy That gets plenty of press, Amazing Dream has raced against him 7 times now. Copy That has beaten her twice, both when leading in $100k Group One 4 Year olds.

Amazing Dream has beaten him in the other five, four of them Group One races worth $200k or more. They were The Rising Sun, tonight's Blacks A Fake (Natalie will be over the moon tonight), the 3200 metre Auckland Cup from the stand and the Northern Derby over 2700 metres. She ran straight past Copy That in the Cup and gave him more than 12 lengths before doing the same in the Derby in NZ record time. She was the first filly to win that race in 45 years.

Tonight was her 9th Group One win on top of her two NZ sales series wins. The past two NZ Cup Day appearances would rate as the runs of the meeting.

Hopefully, she will now get the respect she has well and truly earned. Perhaps it is her physical appearance that makes her fly under the radar. Her previous owner once related that if you walked into the All Stars Stables looking for this star filly you would probably walk past her 8 times before giving up!

I admit to fearing her new connections may have been a bit too ambitious taking her to Brisbane after a long and arduous campaign. Their first big risk was offering huge money for her in the first place. They are being handsomely rewarded for their risk. Good on them!

The thoroughbred industry in Australia in the 20th century has had three incredible mares as its flag bearers; Maybe Diva, Black Caviar and Winx. The trots? Well, she is a great story and should be publicised at every opportunity. I'm tipping the lazy media will harp on about King of Swing breaking and, at the end of the story, state the race was won by outsider Amazing Dream". Hope I am wrong but leopards don't change their spots.

I never do this but tonight I will make an exception. I TOLD YOU SHE WAS A BLOODY LITTLE RIPPER!!!!

King Of Swing had probably only reached the status of many People's Favourite in the last couple of months but now he is retiring. Understandably so but he has actually only raced on the East Coast for 26mths

Bondi Lockdown could be it but he will have some tough opposition
Spirit Of St Louis has the name and the ability

It is going to be most interesting to see Ladies In Red in Open ranks
Better Eclipse, 3rd in the MM from a horror draw and he has only been racing for 16mths
Leap To Fame could be anything

Maybe the King's half sis Bettor Twist might be a surprise package

There are some incredible horses over in WA but they're not coming over here - they don't need to

Who have I forgotten?

Just be patient Kev, something will come along. There are many false prophets out there - Ride High still being an Inter "hopeful" being a prime example, Lochinvar Art "needing a spell" the day after its trainer / driver is found guilty of multiple charges being another. Spirit of St Louis has not put a hoof wrong in the new season, I am sure he'll be back in NZ for The Race on April 11. Akuta is clearly the next big thing in NZ but is only three.

Watch and wait.
