For a Reason drawn 3
Majestic Major 4
Avon 5

Can Majestic Major get to the lead?
Will Avon therefore be posted in the death with FAR 1/1?
If MM leads can he win and hold these guys out?
Will the Punter (Abettorpunt) get a cosy run somewhere and uses his blistering ITMQ like sprint to blouse the 2 leaders cutting at each other?

I think "Dicko" will hand up the lead and aim to get some prizemoney!

If Majestic Major hands up to Avonnova, the race is over. Avonnova will dictate out in front and win again.

If Majestic Major leads out and holds the lead, anything could happen!

turned out to be an interesting race tactics wise..not sure whether everyone would of been happy with how it panned out

When you look at the race in retrospect, you see that FAR, barrier 3, only had to get past Funny Boy, barrier 2, to get to the running line, as a stablemate, Our Hi Jinx was drawn 1. You would not have expected FB to hold it out, and when FAR held Majestic Major, the lead was his, and then he gave up to Avonnova, outside Avonnova was the John McCarthy runner, Blazin N Cullen, and Forever Gold drawn the widest, who was never really going to try and aim up from out there!............so in retrospect, the chances of leading early were a distinct possibility! Thank god for the sprint lane! The rest is now history!

Not at all! I have not heard one argument for it other than, "some punters get upset because there horse gets held up for a run!" Yet, the statistics provided show that it is not the case at all, the sprint laner' s don't win all that often anyway................it seems like the gap goes quicker than they do!............so out the window goes that theory!..........with the move to bigger tracks, that should also help to reduce the reliance or need for a sprint lane............MOREOVER!...........the need to preserve the "opportunity" for an equal run for all runners in consideration of their relative positions during a race is paramount to "fairness". And yes, there will still be runners getting held up.....but they are not always the horses on the fence!

You are spot on! No SL, Avonnova would have gone to the line "hard Held" winning!

True but looking at it the other way no SL and the best horse would have been beaten. Good strong horse Avonnova but definitely a front runner back in the field against a sit sprinter he would be very vulnerable. I just can't imagine a free legged pacer would be able to unleash an explosive sprint. G Hall Snr picked up on this in the Queensland winter carnival.

I think he would have been heading for the lead at all cost!....the question is would Luke have let him go!....I think so, & FAR probably does not get out!
