View Full Version : Superfecta? Will it return?

I have noticed recently with the Melbourne Cup close by, that some of the betting agencies are offering massive dividends if you can pick the 1st 7 in order in the cup, or Tom Waterhouse offering a $25,000,000 pool to pick the 1st 10 in order!
This bring to mind whatever happened to the Superfecta, this was extremely popular, but gave way to the BIG 6, which from what I can see is the biggest flop of all times! Come on TAB it's time to bring back the Supefecta, and spark it off with some jackpots!
I will probably get hung for adding a thread about this, as it is a "participants" forum not a "punters" forum, but to be honest, I don't think they are mutually exclusive!

You got me Kev!...........but I do think the Superfecta should return, Harness racing should bring it back, they can promote maximum 10-12 runners in a race, so that it is not like trying to sort out 20 runners in the Cup!
I'm on your band wagon, all I am seeing is pages and pages of stories on the gallopers, nothing against them, it is Cup time, and it creates interest! But where are the Harness stories, and why aren't they being printed! The only stories I see in NSW, are written by NZ correspondent, Michael Guerin, don't get me wrong, I like his style and his stories are well written and interesting! But is that all we have to offer! I don't know what it is like in VIC.....harness racing is going backwards......my thought is what get's one interest in harness racing, except when you are born into it, or have friends involved! It also seems that when someone does have an interest, they later drift off to the gallops! It is good to have the mini trotters, they are the breeding ground for future trainers and drivers, and should be promoted more! But getting the punting dollar in to Harness Racing on a strategic and planning basis needs to be addressed quickly! I wonder if anybody has any thoughts on how this can be done!

The Age in Vic NEVER has anything on harness
I was amazed to see that the Wizard Of Odds they have been promoting in the paper and to be found at theage.com includes greyhounds and harness - it would seem that it has to be someone other than their team and something they may be receiving a kickback for. They will do anything nowadays - regularly selling their front page for advertising. I do not know if we want them but clearly we could buy our way into The Age if wanted to
As far as ideas for getting the punting dollar, we do have a 13 page thread

First four replaced the superfecta and has been a hell of a lot more popular with punters.....there will be no going back Steve.

Regarding info in the lead post.... brave bookies offering odds of 2.5 mil to one....the real odds are at least 100 times that!!

I don't mean every race.........just 1 a night or at least in feature races!........give the punters a chance to get a big payout!..............What I have noticed is that when there is a 1st 4 jackpot in one state and not another, when the dividend is declared on the jackpot race, most of the time it is less than you get in another state that does not have a jackpot! Work that out!
I would prefer to replace the BIG 6 with a Superfecta race, you know where you stand after 1 race, not waiting for 6, that's probably why the Quaddie came into play! They could just try it and see how it goes, it can't hurt there is normally only a couple of thousand in the BIG 6 on a Menangle Saturday night meeting at best! Even on normal gallop meetings they only get $2 or $3 thousand. What's the point?
At the moment, the corporate bookies are promoting up to pick 10 in order for the Melbourne Cup, I know there are conditions, but I think if you box 10 in a Super 10 it would be 3,628,800 to 1 to get those 10 in the right order, not counting the other 10 runners who may spoil the party!....if one of them run in the first 10 you are gone!

To box 12 runners is 480 million to 1..............but most would play an ascending scale, not putting every runner as a winner or higher place getter, but still the odds would be massive!........why do you think they are offering it!
I hope some little old lady from Winston Hills has $1 on the winning combo!

I know why they are offering it Steve......it's because the odds are massively in their favour, hence my 'brave' comment. Boxing 12 at those odds still leaves another 12 runners.....the actual odds are in the BILLIONS/1. Minimum bet for the promo above is $10-.

It's harder to win than Lotto, you only need 7 or 8 in any order out of 44, not 10 in the correct order out of 24!

Yeah, you can't play it to get say 2%, so you are betting 2 cents a combo!

That will probably be (better than 75 / 25) the NZ Cup

I'm all for the superfecta. With the life ban of Gleeson being overturned last year it's a perfect time to bring it back.

You are very cynical!.........that Superfecta incident was actually a mastermind idea, and they pulled it off!....Unluckily they got caught
I just don't think the BIG 6 on harness racing has worked, have a "trial" on some races! I like what QLD tab have been doing with their trifecta jackpots on the 1st race each week @ Albion Park on a Saturday night! The NSW TAB jackpots on Harness Racing, seemed to have disappeared......the TAB takeout on all pools is over the top!.......they need to consider their position in the market to maintain it!

The Superfecta incident referred to, was where there was a carry over pool on the Superfecta of $22,700k, The odds on favourite was Colouresque driven by Chris Gleeson, his brother Matt Gleeson played a multi combination Superfecta, and left Colouresque out completely..........as it happens, Colouresque broke a hopple at the start and pulled out.........the rest is history Matt got the full Superfecta pool, Colouresque's hopple was found to have been cut!........the sting worked out.....until they enquired as to who got the Superfecta, and the cut hopple? They almost pulled it off!!!
Also, the BIG 6 has just not worked.....pools are too small for the result.......half the time the pools jackpot........let's try the Superfecta again!......maybe 1 a night with a bit of a jackpot to kick things off....on a trial basis!
The QLD TAB has a good jackpot trifecta on the 1st race at Albion Park each Saturday night, the pool often gets over a $100k.......we should bring in this type of Jackpot on maybe race 1 at Menangle on a Saturday night.....the gallops punters are still out there!............kick off the interest to start off the whole night!
The Tab takes to much out of the pools, they need to do some more marketing!

This is the Superfecta thread.. I started it to generate ideas to increase betting turnover, and therefore income to trotting.........the gallops run the place already, they are creeping all over us, with night time meetings also!

This is the Superfecta thread..
I am pretty sure you know that I know that - just surprised me that you did not seem too concerned about a race where the best horse was not given a fair shot at winning (reminded me of a sprint lane debate)

I was not a party to it, of course I don't like it, it happened in about 1986...a long time ago!......All I said was they almost got away with it!.......I can tell that I saw him at the tote window collecting! He has been warned off for life as a result!

This week's TattsBet jackpot is $35,000 on the 1st race trifecta at Albion Park.............let's see what the final pool get's to........if it gets to over a $100k.........it's probably worth the TAB's return on about 2-3 races......clever work!

Agree Steve, it sounds like a great idea.....as u have said before, especially on Saturdays when the gallops are finishing up. I'm no fan of the superfecta, but using these jackpots on a tri/f4 would probably get my interest.

If its on tri/f4, that is OK, I was suggesting Superfecta as a rejuvenation for punters, chance of big "divvie" for a smaller investment.....the occasional novelty betting type event as a marketing idea!
Maybe, the TAB should hold back 50% of all jackpot pools during the week, for a 1st race Saturday big jackpot, whether Trifecta, 1st 4 or Superfecta! On the subjest of 1st 4's, Sky Channel should be showing the 4th placegetter on the front dividend screen, and not going to another race where possible until the 4th placegetter is notified! How frustrating, when it is a photo for 4th, and you are waiting to see if you got the 1st 4, and they nick off to another meeting..........maybe they should flash this on the screen in the corner somewhere, whilst the next race is running!

I have mentioned this elsewhere - we have to make some time slots ours! Maybe they will not want Saturday night?
Big6 jackpots tonight - a mere $3012

I was unaware this was a regular bet type until Steve brought it up. I thought it was a promo sort of bet reserved for big meetings. It's obviously not popular and should probably be scrapped. I don't think there is much interest in the duet either....can that too.

Quaddie paid $100,000 !! Do you get $50,000 for having 2 of them?

BIG 6 pool at Menangle tonight $1,564 - don't tell me a Superfecta pool on Beautide's race wouldn't have been over $10,000.......is the TAB trying to save face with itself??

The Tattsbet jackpot trifecta pool reached $160,000 less the $35,000 jackpot leaves $125,000 NET! The total trifecta pool at Menangle for the corresponding meeting for every race combined was just under $60k.............punters want jackpots to be the incentive to invest.......it is not "rocket science", whenever there is a carry over pool, the punters get excited! And I would say they invest even if they are gallops or doggie punters!
To be fair, the TAB did put a $10,000 jackpot on the main Quaddie, the same night...............Total Pool a "massive" $42,000!
Tattsbet kicked their a#%*'s! NSWTAB at least do something for the big meetings coming up!
