Their only home meeting for the year but with a most respectable $14.5k for both the pacers and trotters cups
http://www.harness.org.au/fields.cfm?mc=SA091114&fromstate=vic
With a home straight of only 150m - is there a track (still in use) with a shorter straight?

Thanks Rob - all I can say is Wow!
No wonder so many leaders win and this is where the Inter will be

"and this is where the Inter will be" and is it not 3 years or so????? sorry can't get my head around an Inter in 2015 on a track as such irrespective of money...
sorry to hijack this thread Kev, so onto St Arnaud, as for the Trotters Cup, i see Wildenstein who is a fast beginner from the stand and a similar fast beginner next to him with an even more aggressive driver of Gazoline with his desire to lead and give Clinton Welsh a nice sit and cosy run at odds behind the leader. So Wildenstein great value for a place id imagine, but Pretty Sunday should be close by as she is drawn just behind the 1 and 2 mentioned. She should be too good and her main danger Quite A Moment.

Perhaps Boort is shorter.
Unfortunately not all clubs have the luxury of fantastic big tracks to race on or the support to develop and grow their club and industry. 25 years ago half mile tracks were the bees knees for the industry. I reckon we will be having this discussion about 1000m tracks in another 25 years!
Really, what did closing these tracks achieve for the industry in a positive way?

Boort was the first one that came to mind for me. Having a look online it is listed as being 712m in circumference with a 151m home straight.

I see that stat on GP on their website but surely the straight has to be longer than that, 2 straights of 160ms only accounts for 320m of an 804m track???
Anyhow Busselton is a dish bowl track we race n over here around the Christmas/new years beak. Good to go to and get a bit of shell grit thrown up in the face as the horses race for the front on the first bend!

Burnie and Broken Hill are two others that would be fairly short too

Penrith - 130 metres

Devonport is a deadset bowl, I'd even doubt it was 100m.
All this makes me think of Casino greyhound track.....straight = 0metres

I think Devenport might be the winner = 110m
I hope we end up getting the replays for the last 5 at St Arnaud - I saw the Pacers cup but would like to see the Trotters Cup

The winner of the trotters was less like a trotter & more like a jet!!

Time to get out the road maps again for your ONCE A YEAR opportunity to see racing at St Arnaud tomorrow

The cup is not until 4.57 so you have plenty of time to get there. It is an interesting little town so if you cannot make it this year - book in for the weekend next year

Can you believe this:
BOTH THE ST ARNAUD PACING CUP AND THE DONALD JOCKEY CLUB CUPS ARE ON THE SAME AFTERNOON?
For those not sure of their geography, St Arnaud ( population 2600) and Donald ( population 1600 ) are approx 38Kms apart on the Sunraysia Highway west of Bendigo and north of Ballarat.
What a disaster for race-goers, townspeople, sponsors and volunteer workers. How did this happen????

The codes do not seem to care about each other.
I got completely stitched up Noel as feeling a bit off, I thought it would be easier to stay home and watch both on TV but Ch68/78/Sky522/racing.com have made the lesser Geelong their feature meet so no interviews, the things I enjoy, from Donald
ps only 4 pacing races at StA did not enthuse me either

And the first two races at St Arnaud, both trots were very ordinary.
The winners earned their share easily with breakers, locked wheels and small fields. Not a good look.

I think the Trotters Cup was an even worse look Noel

Agree Kev
Lots of driver initiative, many moves and the winner coming from 5 back on the inside.
Interesting horse El Eagle
His US bred mother is a half sister to the Little Brown Jug winner and champion sire Fake Left.

She has been a hard mare to get in foal as she has produced nothing since El Eagle. There are some other close relations to El in Oz as Paige Nicole, another half sister of Fake Left was imported but she too has been hard to get in foal and Getya Wings Out is the only one anyone would know

There will be TWO race meetings at St Arnaud next season (2016/2017) - there's a little bit of info for you - the trade off of course seems to be that these will be the only two the club will conduct (no more "away" meetings at Charlton) which will be an interesting discussion point in its own right

Broken Hill is a 600 metre track - 80 metre straight. Season is 10 meetings (9 non-TAB and 1 TAB).
