I stand to be corrected but I think this may be Vic's first 2yo race for the season
6 starters for you breeding enthusiasts to look up.
I haven't done so yet myself but No.3 jumped out at me

Rob Auber however mentions some stunning trial form for No.6

Clive On The Park is well named - having been bred by Clive Palmer's Cold Mountain Stud. The Burnett's/Mifsud's traditionally get them up and going early too.

Dont think cold mountain stud is still operating last time out that way looked deserted to me.

Be interesting to see if this horse is still around in 6 months time. I think alot of 2 yearsold are raced to hard to early which robs us of seeing great horses in the future going around year in year out. In some ways where starting to look like usa where its 2-3 yearold racing and not as many good horses coming though as older horses.

Amazing to think another horse started $1.10 when you read this

http://www.harnesslink.com/Australia/HRNSW-Media-Reelase---NSW-s-Bettermatch-on-Fire-at-Maryborough

The final quote however does not quite follow in my book

"I like racing the two-year-olds early in the season; we take our time and get to know a bit about them, that's why I knew Bettermatch was ready today."

Standardbreds aren't Greyhounds... How many horses, racing from that age, race until they are 8 or more? Anyone have any stats?

Race For Fun
12-05-2014, 12:43 PM
Very early 2 year olds who show a lot of early promise sometimes don't improve as much as the 2 year olds that appear at the races a few months later. Sometimes its because they get tired from too much work to soon but sometimes its just that they go early and never go much faster as they mature. Its a hard one 2 year old racing there is a lot of money to be won in the big races for the few who are good enough but there are a lot of nice horses who never reach their full potential because they are burnt out chasing the good horses. Some owners simply want quick return on their money which is entirely up to them.

Hey teecee, if you want to roll the 2yo Maryborough thread into here, please do so as I thought I might follow and report on the 2yo's this season

Toni alerted us to NSW's first 2yo race tonight in the Maryborough thread but I figure we cannot keep using a Maryborough thread so therefore the new thread

I think the main attraction the 2yo racing holds for me is that quite often other than trial form and market - all you have to go on for first starters is breeding

At Leeton tonight the one I like for his maternal family is Our Red Jack
His 2nd dam is a full sister to the 3rd dam of both Kept For Pleasure and Self Denial
and his dam Glenburn Smoothie would seem to have been quite a fair lightly raced filly and has definitely shown herself to be a producer

http://www.harness.org.au/ausbreed/reports/m_progeny.cfm?horse_id=375824

It cannot hurt that iform says he has won trials (without standing out by the sound of it)

http://iform.hrnsw.com.au/Meeting/Details/961?adv=False&r=6

Richard prior

The second at Geelong tonight was also the second 2yo race in Vic for the season
Christmas Jolt was the seasonal tip and duly saluted at his first start
He showed typical Peter Manning horse toughness sitting outside longs odds on pop (for the second time) The Jet Player and seemingly worrying him out of it before coming right away

The Jet Player clearly has his fair share of ability but has also very clearly made a name for himself as punters' villain (long odds-on both starts to date and rolled on both occasions). Christmas Jolt did look professional I thought.

Another 2yo race at Bendigo tonight

http://www.harness.org.au/fields.cfm?mc=BN301214&fromstate=vic

Peter Manning trains half of them and has the cream of drivers so it would be no surprise to see him trifecta the race
On his super impressive debut it would be hard to go past Christmas Jolt at this time of the year but first starter Pickpocket reads well in the analysis
I am not sure who Leroy O'Brien is but he comes from Manning country (Armstrong is just a few k's from Great Western)

A couple of nice 2yr old Races at Shepparton on Saturday night, I'll have a crack at the prevew later this evening.
2yr old Colts & Geldings Classic
No 3 Christmas Jolt looks the one to beat in this, No 1 Brocks Territory led and won at Maryborough in 2.00 but No 6 Itz Sportz Torque ran a big race after being in the breeze for most of the way and was only beaten a head. The NSW visitor Regal Nightshade must be respected, Billy Trembath has a habit of winning these early Classic's, Regal Nightshade ran a good race to finish 2nd behind Bettermatch in the Leeton Breeders plate when beaten 7 metres in 1.58.8, No 5 Combined Interest was beaten 18 metres in the same race and should be a lot fitter for the experience. No 4 Soho Lexington won a trial by a big space a few weeks ago and must be considered in the exotic's.

Soho Rockefeller ran into a perfect storm for his first race with John Justice on the leader making sure nothing was going to make easy ground from back in the field.
The winner who sat in the Death and rated 1.55.8 for his first ever start was fantastic
Dont Hold Back is from a ¾ sister to Garnet River (2nd dam is Gemfire)

Third dam left Chandon so the family has a touch of speed.

The breeding record of the dam of todays Ballarat 2yo winner Celebrity Guest seems most unusual
Celebrity Ball was a decent 2yo herself winning 3 races including a Breeders Crown heat and came 5th in the Gp1 Gold Tiara final WHILE IN FOAL
for she had her first foal that year
then she returned to racing back in foal and won a Breeders Crown heat as a 3yo too - the foal she was carrying however is listed as deceased

Well done Anne.... 5 from 5 makes the breeding efforts worthwhile

Seems like American Ideal might be the one to take over from his father Western Ideal.

What was your reason behind this breeding?

Bonnie
03-30-2015, 09:31 PM
Thanks Noel. I am a big fan of American Ideal, saw him take his record at the Red Mile and love his breeding , very strong on both sides. We had a lot of fun racing Shezacullen and I wanted to introduce some speed and like the 4/4 cross to Direct Scooter. The resultant foal ( Ideal Tyson ) was a big boy and when he was offered at the yearling sale most comments were ' too big, won't make a 2 year old ' . I am happy that he has!

Adaptor
03-30-2015, 09:53 PM
Albatross 4X4 can't hurt either. I saw American Ideal street a field at Freehold ( half miler) in a heat of a stake..can't remember what it was, but he went sore and didn't compete in the final. He was very fast!

Messenger
03-30-2015, 10:24 PM
Well Noel you have aroused my interest

I am going to suggest American Ideal's dam side could be the key
The Western line worked very well with Direct Scooter mares - you do not have to look much further than all the progeny of super mare Rich N Elegant (which includes Western Ideals best Rocknroll Hanover)
7 of her progeny by Western Ideal or Western Hanover averaged nearly $800k in prizemony.

It is therefore no surprise that American Ideal's dam is a Direct Scooter line mare
Why not breed some more Direct Scooter line with him (which 'breed the best blood of the sire's dam back to him' believers would like)
which makes Shezacullen a good match
Ideal Tyson has a very neat 4x4 Direct Scooter (& Albatross) cross

Unfortunately HRA pedigrees only show us to the 3rd gen but Anne's baby has earned a place in the ClassicFamilies db which shows 4th gen

If you wanted to get into this family the opportunity is currently available.

Hi Kev, Strange sometimes when a real nice filly doesn't leave a lot in the barn but her daughters do. Courage is doing a fine job this season, He currently has 11 or 12 winning 2yr olds.

R.1 Village Jolt v Gottashopearly. First starter War Dan Apollo is out of a half sis to Make Mine Cullen (and yet another with Avonali in his ped)
R.2 Goodtime Sammy is going for 3 in a row. First starter Most Happy Cullen is another bred by Greg Fusinato (see top of this page)

No but tried to buy a Stormy Helen filly once but couldn't get her

Stormy Helen was a nice racemare for Fran Donohue without being anything out of the box, but boy oh boy didn't she leave a magnificent legacy, you just never know with mares which will and won't throw on, but gee she ( Stormy Helen) has well and truly left a big, if not indelible mark.

Hard on the eyes Kev, The winner went super in that heat but I thought that Rockstar Angel's run was an eyecatcher, She's got some breeding behind her coming from an Artiscape 1/2 sister to Christian Cullen.

You wouldn't normally expect a 2yo having its 3rd start, drawn the pole, Nathan Jack driving, with a last start Melton 2nd to Goodtime Sammy in 1.57ish next to its name - to start 50/1 at Cranbourne.
Well Rocknroll Gold did and only got beat 3m.
The reason for the 50/1 would have been that his stablemate was odds on fave but that is not who beat him.
I reckon if Goldie had have held on, the stable would have been kicking itself

Good to see he is still a colt - he may be worth a try if a comeback is ruled out (If his 6th dam had been Ar Miss instead of her sister, he would be even more promotable)

JJ's dam of course won both the APG and Crown just 7 yrs ago

Great to see Rock N Roll Heaven fillies winning both Semi's last night, We tend to forget how good some Dam's were on the track until they produce and JJ's mother Keppel Bay was a very good race filly.

Like the winner it is hard to find anything in the breeding of these two NZers but we might have to make a lot of additions (their dam line) to our pedigree db to be able to add these two

First starter Spiritwriter could hardly have been more impressive winning at Hamilton this afternoon.
He has an excellent dam line being out of the well performed Striking Spirit who was out of the even better performed Exotic Strike who won an Australian Gold. They have proved a little difficult to get in foal but I don't think the Stanleys will be complaining.

Rock Of America got up by a HFHD in the 2yo at Warragul today
The track was rain affected but have a look at how he flies over the last few bounds and the one he grabbed was not stopping

http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-results.cfm?mc=WR170815&ms=vic#WRC17081507

It was only his 2nd start so I went back a week to look at his previous and he flew late then too but was beaten a SHFHD

http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-results.cfm?mc=CR080815&ms=vic&fromstate=vic#CRC08081508

An early call I know but this gelding might have some serious closing speed

Really nice win - the track raced superbly given the amount of rain on it and the horse (and other winners on the day) is definitely one to follow.

A couple of 2yo's notched up their first victory on the last day of the season at YV today and more importantly their Vicbred bonus (along with a couple of 3yo's)
I am not 100% certain about the bonuses - I would have thought that they would show up in the horses prizemoney but maybe even though their stats credit today's prizemoney, the bonus shows up later?
