I hate SKY, potentially a world record for a mare and have to put up with some crap distance race from Bathurst :-(

My sentiment exactly. Words can't really describe how pissed off I am about this coverage of the so called best card of harness racing in Australia.

On a positive......agree with the above. What a great horse, let alone a great mare!!

Yes that's a real bummer Mark, They should have stayed with Menangle and flicked Bathurst over to Sky 2.

Agreed Brent, a staggering performance really. Also, did it with ease in the finish and as a race went, one of the best I've seen in a while.

Amazing run from an amazing mare. What can you say, 10 off the gate, death seat all the way and beat some very good mares with a bit in hand. I wonder how much faster she could have gone?

I am trying Kyle's 9/Win tip now but overall I think today has been a mistake - too much competition unless we follow the Netball lead

Words can't describe it , she was 3 and4 wide the first 500 metres till she got to the death ! What would she have run against the pegs?

Simply astonishing Dan and it might be a big call but the best might be still to come from the Mighty Mare.

Kev it definitely would be a super match up two true champs.
Watching the way the super mare went today I don't think there would be any horse currently racing in Australasia that would of got within a length of her today. Beautides win was impressive but I think the mighty mare stole the show, to reel off that last quarter of 26.5 after doing all the work outside the leader just left everybody speechless.
I hope we get to see a lot more of her here in Aus because she is a very special and gifted standardbred.

I think Adore Me could have ran a world record time for aged mares on a 1400m (7/8 mile) track. The only faster time I can find was on a mile track. Can anyone on here confirm or disprove this ? Thanks.
I thought it was a great days racing and the club should be congratulated. Was a bit disappointed with the ID final , not enough moves for my liking !

That is probably unlikely. A win in Friday's Auckland Cup is about all that is left for her now.

The other owners are his daughter and son-in-law. I suspect he may not want to risk her much longer with others in the family starting to shine brightly to hold his interest.

Smoken, from what I can see the 1st race ran 1.53.4 to beat Abettorpunt's world record of 1.54.0 for 2400m
The 3yo filly's Oaks also set a new world record of 1.54.2 to beat La Machane's 1.56.7 by 2.3 seconds also over 2400m
And Adore Me breaks Smoken Up's record by 0.8 seconds
That was 3 records in the first 4 races.
Race 5 the Derby missed the record for 3yo colts/geldings by 0.2 seconds
That either a super fast track or clock

Us too Danno!! Sorry missed you before you left. Someone very kind took Luke up into the members for that race. He had a prime seat to watch it and glad he did. Thought she had to stop but just kept finding more. A few people standing around me (left in the outer by son) were saying what I was thinking when she kicked clear and race over "Let her run". Guess temptation was to grab hold and ease her down, but let her run she did and that was just breathtaking.

Received some interesting observations on Adore Me's time on my email - what do you think?

"Take nothing away from an outstanding performance from Adore Me but direct comparisons based on time is folly. The track was obviously in very good order but environmental conditions were outstanding for running fast time when she raced. Low pressure system, temp in the high 30's extremely humid, not a breath of wind and a thunderstorm imminent means very low air density and is exceptionally conducive to fast times-It doesn't get any better.

Smoken Up's record was in race 9 on a night meeting on the 30 of April. Without looking up the weather records I think it's pretty safe to say that even if the track was as good Smoken Up didn't enjoy the same exceptional climatic conditions for running fast time that Adore Me did."

As mentioned in previous posts, the track was on fire and yes these conditions could be part of the reason for so many records.

Adore Me toyed with them and deserves her record......question is, what would some of our very speedy past Champs have done under similar conditions. As mentioned before with all due respect to the mares, if the first 8 all bettered 1.50, then could our past Champs have gone world record times.

Smoken

I reckon Trigger could have gone 1.46 something . As for the other past Champs, who knows?

If you missed it in the Ah NZ thread, teecee posted that the mighty mare has been retired from racing as she actually fractured a sesamoid bone in the Auckland Cup.
She had nothing more to prove and what a breeding gem she should be

Shame the mare had to end her career that way, we were at Menangle the other day and her performance was simply mind blowing, I hope she has a long and happy future.

Something like Aus does

(I realize that many of the NZers are on this list too)
