Kilmore Harness Racing Club CEO Ben Murphy says the club is excited about its annual Pacing Cup being shifted to Saturday night, March 19.
Stake money for the 2016 Kilmore Pacing Cup has been increased to $70,000 from $60,000 and the race will carry Group 2 status.
The race’s conditions have also changed, the Cup distance shortened from 3150m to 2690m and from a standing start event to a random barrier draw mobile start race.
Sad to see these changes

Agreed. They are robbing the race of everything that made it great ...once upon a time.

If hrv had any brains, the race should have kept as it was but made a stand start freeforall, and put on 2 weeks out from the hunter cup. Given they have next to none stand start races that lead to the hunter cup for good horses to go in. The programing of hrv leading into good race is beyond a joke. Just another fine example of how they run the sport. After their was NO changes made after the audit regrading ceo/board I'm begin to wonder if the sport has any hope of a long term future in vic.

That's a real shame.

The random barrier draw is intriguing - if the best horse draws the pole it will be a non betting non contest.
At Warragul the club switched from stand to mobile two years back but the draw is based on either stakes won or metro assessment from memory so biggest earners draw poorly. On a bigger track that may not make much difference though.
Doubt the TAB or SKY would have had any opposition to the removal of another stand race from their schedule.

51 Years of stand start handicap racing over 2 miles....no more.
Champions including Paleface Adios, Polular Alm twice, Pure Steel, Welcome Advice have won the race doing it the hard way.. off handicaps...in the daytime !

Quite radical changes...date, distance, starting method, and time of day. Not much else that could have been changed.

Unfortunately their destroyed the history of the race Imo, like I said in the early post put it on 2 weeks before hunter cup and make a stand free for all and you would get the best of the best going around in it. Such a shame another once great race is lost.
