You are talking to hardcore fans here Brad. Half of them have probably sold a horse to the US lol.
US buyers have been buying our horses (esp NZers) since before I was born and I am 60
I do not find time to watch US racing but all serious breeders probably do. I find there is enough racing in Vic to keep me busy (especially if one follows both codes)

Hi Brad
I was lucky enough to work in the US for 16 years, while commuting home 3-4 times a year, so I saw the trots in the US and country Victoria ( I disliked Moonee Valley as a trots venue, and have only been to Melton about 5 times)
I was in NY, so was able to go to the trots at the mile track at the Meadowlands, and the 3 half milers: Yonkers, just north of The Bronx, Freehold..about 30 mins south of NY in NJ, and Monticello in Westchester Co, NY.
The difference between racing on a mile track and the half milers was huge. At the Meadowlands, 12 are off the front and constantly change position over the trip. This was known as the Meadowlands shuffle. The best drivers in the US and Canada make up the driving colony.
Yonkers has has a re-birth with booming prize money due to the Racino that has been built there. ( 5000 plus VLTs..Video gaming machines) Monticello has a casino attached as well, but Freehold doesn't.
NO standing starts, all mobiles, and all over a mile ( except a mile and 1/8 series at Yonkers from time to time
The 8 off the front at the half mile tracks produces predictable racing, with follow the leader often the norm, but the mile track at the Meadowlands was very different, with horses constantly on the move. It was very rare to see a horse lead all the way at the Meadowlands.
On the east coast,, Pocono Downs and Dover Downs and Harrahs at Chester are all 5/8 mile tracks where the racing patterns are different again.
I hope this helps.
Harnessracing.com and ustrotting.com websites are both excellent and have a great amount of information.
