Do you follow trotters and pacers equally?

Although I like to watch the champion trotters, I cannot say I follow both gaits equally - I think it is a carryover from my young days when I had a punt and saw the frequency of trotters breaking as a risk I was not prepared to take.

The meeting at Maryborough tomorrow prompts me to ask this question now.
There are 4 pacing and 3 trotting races on the card.
I wondered how many posters would be more interested in one half of this card than the other

Travel is a factor for me and I cannot bring myself to go that far for half the program.
It made me wonder whether it was good programming or whether people would prefer programs to be predominantly one gait or the other

Since we have started training a few trotters now, I care more but Ill still check pacing results more often. Outside of the galloping, I find trotting results really unpredictable. We have a small pool of trotters in WA and different ones seem to win all the time. Consistent form doesn't seem to exist

I always follow the pacers, I show an interest when there is a big trotting race on or when one of the champions is racing. I would not go to a meeting that had 6-7 trot races on. I prefer to watch the dogs before a trotting race on Foxtel. Not sure why I don't go much on them, the same with the gallopers. I have never owned a trotter or galloper so that may be a reason. By the same token I hope the trotters continue to do well and attract more owners and punters.

Why would anyone inject any money into trotters when there's no chance of earnings? and if no one wants to breed, then how is that half of the industry going to get standout performers? With no standout performers, who wants to watch?

I just looked into potential races for our little trotter and there's just nothing. Once a month a city race at GP for $18k, other than that it's $7k country races. We've been told we could take her east but it's not much better in VIC or NSW - the occasional Group 3 at $20,000 and there's one race later this year for $30k, but it's a long way to take her when we can just race at home once a month for just a bit less. It'd be ok if she were younger as there's a few bigger age races, but she's 6. Compare that to the pacers - in WA at least, there's regularly $20k, $23k, $30k races which is exciting for the punter.

One of the Maryborough races (I think) is a Supplementary race given they received enough like noms.

In race 2 B.Lilley got the training trifecta in the Jet roofing trotters race at Kilmore last night. That might be rare in a trotting race.

Probably the best spread of races in my mind- 2 trotting races and the rest for the pacers at that meeting.

Many of my friends breed or train trotters so I follow both. I always say you have to be insane to train trotters, all that time and effort and they gallop at the start ! Or even worse in the home straight when they look like winning !
I think that the TAB should let you bet that a certain trotter will or wont gallop at some stage in the race. I know a few that are certain to break !

We had a capacity field of 12 run at Warragul last week from the tapes and not one horse galloped for the entire journey - a pleasure to watch and I can't recall seeing it there before!
