Questions re Testing thresholds

"The Queensland Government Racing Science Centre reported a level of Total Carbon Dioxide (TC02) in the blood sample in excess of the threshold as prescribed by the Australian Harness Rules of Racing.

Confirmatory analysis conducted by the Australian Racing Forensic Laboratory indicated an elevated level of TC02 but under the threshold as prescribed by the Australian Harness Racing rules."

Got 12 months

So the 2nd (confirmatory) analysis just has to show an elevated level?
The level in the blood sample can change (lessen) over time?

Staggering Paul, unlike another case where the 2nd test rose and the case thrown out. Why have a 2nd test?????????

I'm no biological chemist, ( but in todays world it would seem to be a considerable advantage to a trainer) but I do know the TC02 level rises and falls quite dramatically in the hours post tubing with a "milkshake" type of administration, and subsequently many of the trainers who are also competent chemists run a fine line here.

One of the reasons authorities put in place rules about "no race day administrations of ANYTHING" ( so long as they don't get busted hey) was to deal with exactly that aspect.

So, we know TC02 levels can rise and fall in a fairly short space in time....can it rise and fall after the sample has been taken...I don't know, just like some "expert witnesses" were completely baffelled about the changing levels in a sample whilst in storage some time ago, at the same time another sample which had tested above the prescribed levels for the same substanceand and was collected at the same meeting did not change at all!!!!

Funny things can happen can't they??
