BALLARAT - Please note Sprint Lane is not in operation.
Thanks Dot, well Track Details (and form) needs changing back then
These are basic things that show whether people are on the ball or not
Not the only ones to drop the ball Kev
APG have taken over the Australian Premier Trotting Sale. Click on the link for the terms and the conditions of the trotting sale and the very first condition stipulates that the yearling must be pacing bred.......
A missed opportunity today.
With NO gallops meetings in Vic today we should have had a day meeting
There are 10 Vic racing free Mondays over summer. A quick glance and it appears this might be the only time HRV don't have a day meeting.
Isn’t this one a “trots” one for France, so needs to be a night meeting for their scheduling?
Not enough horses perhaps for both I guess Kev, though perhaps a little forethought could have seen Friday’s Yarra Glen meeting transferred to today. The HRA conference was billed as an opportunity for participants to have their say, which was always going to be very difficult for many local participants to attend with a day meeting and a night meeting on Friday.
Does anyone know if the presentations were videoed for dissemination amongst those who couldn’t t attend?
Thanks for the answers Brendan and Dot
I am not sure what has become of the 'hot weather' policy.
With the 2.03pm start at Stawell today they could be racing in 40° later in the day
A Monday and a Thursday meet for Maryborough this week is a little unusual
Think today was Charlton meeting at Maryborough due building works at Charlton
"Trainer Matthew Craven says he certainly wasn’t “expecting” Wardan Express would win Sunday’s Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup, but he also wasn’t exactly surprised."
http://www.harnesslink.com/Australia...s-Hamilton-Cup
Maybe they weren't expecting him to win but wouldn't it be refreshing if we had an trainer say "we set him for this race, backed him and would have been disappointed if we missed"
Wardan Express was backed for plenty if the early form guide market is to be believed. He started 3/1 fixed and paid not much better than 2/1 on the tote

It was a stinker at Cobram yesterday but even so you can see why some suggested the track needed even more water
In the 4 months since Bopper Jet arrived from NZ, 3 of his 10 starts have been at Geelong and he has won them all.
I hope that at least some local followed him after that first win because he started $3 for the first win, $6 the second and $17 tonight

I am not a fan of names like Tabcorp Park Melton but at least we tack Melton on the end (yeah, yeah I know we need the money/sponsorship)
BUT at least we are not as ridiculous as the gallops. I was checking where they were racing this week and I come across
'Spendthrift Australia Park' - nothing more
I now know that it happened a couple of months back but for those who do not know - you are supposed to know or work out for yourself that it is Werribee
Bloody Ridiculous
While I am having a crack at the gallopers. I could not believe that strappers were on their iphones while solely responsible for 500kg of horse flesh in the mounting yard.
I would not have believed it if I had not seen it with my own eyes at Ararat's last meet.
I had to laugh that one horse who had to settle for 2nd because of his wayward antics in the home straight, was proving difficult for the strapper to get out of the 2nd placegetters stall - might have had something to do with her only having one hand free as she was glued to her phone in the other hand. I cannot imaging why that horse would be a handful
I was glad to see that Ahmed Taiba won R3 at Ballarat last night as he had 3 of the 4 starters (not the fav mind you)

Me again with my field themes. This time; male names.

Dont envy the caller
Would be fairly easy to introduce a rule about where you can and can't use a phone on course . Would look better on tv that's for sure and improve safety . But as usual they will do this after a major accident !
Thank god for the Hero program showcasing the beauty of the standardbred
For those who get the Harness Racer magazine, on the cover this edition, it is hard to tell that is a horse next to Chris Lang under all that gear (and that is without a cart)
The gallopers can have a bit of gear but their appearance is a big advantage they have over us
I am into my 'forgetful' 60's - should I have known/remembered that last year's Terang Cup winner Messini is deceased?
First meeting at the new Wagga track today. Official opening next month.
Ararat Cup night on Friday
I wonder why the pacers cup isn't over 2570m - maybe as a point of difference from other cups?
With only 2 on the 2nd line they should all still have their chance

Kev being a smart arse here
Vic Rule changes
http://www.harness.org.au/media-room...?news_id=39645
It includes:
When placing an exotic bet (quinella, trifecta, first 4 etc.) a horse not trained by the trainer cannot be selected to finish ahead of a horse trained by them
Order does not matter in Quinellas fellas :D
It would seem to mean no more box trifectas / first 4's for trainers
Dot being more of a smart arse Kev- they’re national rule changes not Vic rule changes.
The time between races at Hamilton today is far too long especially in the 2nd half of the program - there will want to be plenty of entertainment on track
We have up to 42 minutes between races
If all races had only 30 minutes between them the 9 race program would be over 52 minutes earlier - closer to 4hrs than 5

I know you are going to tell me that it is all about getting Sky1 time
I doubt I will go now. If the temp is over 30° at 11am it will be a no-no
To me, Sky having so much power is fundamentally wrong
It seems like they are Coles or Safeway - telling the producer 'if/when/how much'
Mostly 40 minutes between races at Horsham tomorrow
I am not sure how the points were awarded for the Drivers Challenge but it must have been close between Gary Hall Jnr and Chris Alford

I don't often look at Mildura (sorry Mildura) but Mallee Reactor, the winner of R1 might be a serious 3yo

That is 6 wins from 7 starts and the fashion and time of tonights run were VG
Ex Fremantle Docker, GWS Giant and Carlton Blue Rhys Palmer three a shoe at the horses in a race at GP last night. Absolute flog. He never fit in at Carlton and spoke out against their culture but its easy to see who the true flog is.
My daughters in-laws are in the breeding group that sold Mystic Journey for $11k,
Don't feel too bad for them - they have plenty of related foals who will now sell for plenty
Well done Kev to all concerned with Mystic Journey who’s certainly lived up to her name by giving them a journey they won’t forget. Seems Tassie and Vic keen to lay some claim to her origins. Some other controversies over the make up of the field for the race to I believe but all credit to the winner and RVL for trying something different
Would have to say Wayne that I find this comment from you somewhat ironic. Am not condoning for a millisecond the actions of the spectator at Gloucester Park last night, and not only here from you have I read calls that he be banned from race courses for life and charged by police. I’ve read he should be imprisoned, beaten, tied to the track and run over by the field and an assorted array of track vehicles also, as his actions could have endangered the lives of our horses and drivers. No doubt they could have, but equally or moreso endangering the lives of our horses and drivers are the actions of drivers who cause interference in a race, in some instances deliberately driving into another horse in a race and we only suspend them from driving, usually only for a matter of weeks.
Might be time I went to twitter, left the forum. That would be ironic. Or do I need to google the definition of ironic?
It may well be beyond my comprehension that me saying As for penalties going forward, if it's with intent, as long as driver status is irrelevant and a changed policy is clear, make it 6 months is indicative of me not having any concern for life or limb of driver or horse? And/or I should have made this clearer, in me supporting relegation the risk to driver and horse will be minimised significantly.
Might just be me.
