I did know that but had forgotten about it - thanks Glen, it is probably even better than the son even if not quite scientifically correct but it sounds better than Weight Gain

Foyer (in the first at Echuca tonight) is cleverly named
by Oye Vay from Enter Stage Left
Enter Stage Left however is probably even better
by Fake Left from Enta Taynus (pronounce it as it sounds)
registered name of a foal orphaned at birth.....Left Alone
Sad names thread required
Have to submit one of our own for this thread, and the orphan foal mentioned by Teecee reminded me.
We bred a filly foal a few years ago and during her first day we lost her mum with a prolapsed uterus, we had 3 vets working on her all day but still lost her, anyhow* we then turned our attention to the orphaned foal.
She was foaled on the very morning we were due to leave on 2 weeks holiday, which was fully booked and paid for, we asked a few friends if they could do the job while we took off but that was never going to work ( if ever you've raised an orphan foal you'd know).
So we raised her on the bottle, fed every hour on the hour 24/7, no sleep worth mentioning for 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!
When she drank more than 500 mls she would lay back down in the bedding moaning with a gut ache.
Her stable name was easy to pick...... MONA.
Time came to register a name, that was easy too, Miss Holiday.
She never raced due to an injury, but she has produced one foal for one winner at 175:1 mentioned about 12 months ago on here.
Good one Danno, there are obviously some fantastic names out there that the parentage does not give away
Nothing brilliant just a (childhood) favourite - Meet George Jetson (Jeremes Jet)
It follows from his pedigree but this name could have been so much better as Drunk in a name does not conjure up the thought of a champion horse (and isn't that what we all hope we are naming)
Grandpa (a favourite horse of mine) would have inspired me to go with
Major Perignon or General Perignon (if you want to pull rank)
WT's nickname is What The :o
A couple of today's Breeders Crown heat winners at Maryborough are cleverly named
Naked Majesty - Majestic Son + Starcus (must be NZ for starkers ;))
Fabrication - Dream Vacation + Figment
I had one by Peace Of Art we called her Whistlers Mother.
LOOKSMACHNIFICENT (Race 3 Menangle today)
Mach Three - Love At First Sight
Would have worked for your Vain Elva mare too Greg
Some fantastic names :)
The Aces N Sevens colt Four Smart Aces (Race 1 Cranbourne tonight) is owned by
M J Ryan, R B Travers, D J Allman and J A Rando
I wonder whether they are the four 'smart aces' :D
I read on twitter that Twelve Or A Dozen is named because the trainer was asked on SKY Channel - "how many do you have in work...twelve or a dozen?"
Poppys Me Poppy is racing in Adelaide at the moment, and yes his grandpa is the great Popular Alm.
I do not think much of your name, Not Telling :D
Shuteye in the first at Shep tomorrow is well named
Jet Laag x Dream About It
Indulgent who featured in the OP of this thread may be getting back to his best in the very even 7th race
Back in the early 70's Jack Suters had a horse that he had a lot of fun with, simply because of his name....people would watch the horse work, and being inquisitive with a view to the punt, would ask Jack what is his name, Jack would reply " ask him", "very funny but what's his name?" "ask him"....as you can see this could go for a while with varying outcomes because the horse's name was indeed "Ask Him"
In 1970 or thereabouts, a horse called Colossal Dick (foaled 1967) thrust his way onto the racing scene in New Zealand. No, it wasn't a cock-up. What else would he be called? He was by Dick Adios out of Colossal Queen.
Found him Brian - a 67 foal. Only problem is you should have posted it in the Facepalm Names thread :o
I reckon I've found one similar to the Gotashotaway story. Daddywho racing in Vic. Check outs its breeding.
Excellent powers of observation Brenno.
To save others the search, I hope this Ped photo is clear enough for you to read the dates (I am on missus Ipad not my desktop)
Good friend has a mare called little Kicker and went to Sportswriter. He is putting in the papers "Little Scribbler". Short and Sweet
Daddywho wins tonight!
Congratulation to the four smart aces for his/their win on Saturday night

Annie's Last 4yo first starter in Race 3 at Cranbourne
could sadly have been named Orphan Annie
as both Armbro Invasion and Maori Annette are no longer with us
Armbro Invasion's best of course is millionaire Inter winner Take A Moment
while Maori Annette produced Broke As Usual who after winning at Gp1 level went to the US at the end of his 4yo season where he added $350kUS to his Aussie earnings
You will be surprised to know that Race 3 tomorrow is NOT a TROT
Simple but spot on is First Cullect by Gotta Go Cullect (of course) from Debutante. She was a late scratching from what was supposed to be her first start at Shepp last night. Maybe her date/driver did not turn up :)
I like the naming of Race 2 winner In House - Modern Art x Furnished
Beatles fans had to be on good first start winner Bungalow Bill in the 5th just run at Addington
The Dam line is Strawberry Fields - Penny Lane - Paperback Writer - Norwegian Wood
I think I will have to fire up the CD collection tonight
I have done a little more research on this line and here is your 'Songbook'
Norwegian Wood is the dam of
Revolution - Eleanor Rigby - Paperback Writer - Hey Jude - Hello Goodbye - Dont Pass Me By - Dont Let Me Down - Rocky Raccoon - Lucy In The Sky
Paperback Writer is the dam of
Penny Lane - Yellow Submarine - Sergeant Pepper - Let It Be - Blue Jay Way - Mean Mr Mustard - Back In The USSR - Mother Nature
Penny Lane is the dam of
Lennon - Magical Mystery Tour - Strawberry Fields - Across The Universe
Strawberry Fields is the dam of
Bungalow Bill - Inner Light
That is the direct line but you can also throw in
Let It Be is the dam of Band On The Run
Back In The USSR is the dam of Hard Days Night and Lady Madonna
Magical Mystery Tour is the dam of McCartney and Give Peace A Chance
For those of you unlucky enough to be too young to know these songs -
Do You Want To Know A Secret, I Want To Tell You I've Got A Feeling if you take A Day In The Life or Anytime At All you will find you Dig It Because if you Ask Me Why - Its For You. Goodbye I'll Be Back
The End
P.S (I Love You) I know I have too much time on my hands :D (no bushwalking today - this pony has a bruised heel)
Steward's comments from race 2, horse no.7 http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...Y231014&ms=vic In all seriousness....hopefully a light hearted moment shared between trainer and steward?
