Heading your way with Follow the Stars Tuesday.
Thanks Brent and Tony, I was just keeping my eye on the horses with the volume turned down, It looked like she was struggling coming to the corner but she was just playing with (The)Gold Ace.
It's something you see a lot of around the country in Dec and Jan.
Dec has Xmas at the Races which caters for people and work places to have staff Xmas parties and family picnics.
Jan is labelled Summer racing festival.
They are promo programmes run by Racing Board (TAB) to attract new people to the races on track. Heaps of sidelight attractions for families and kids. In fact the racing tends to become the sidelight to the main event of entertainment throughout the day.
The idea is to attract new (younger and families) to the track to experience racing. It's in the holidays season when racing is around the holiday hotspots so is very popular for what it is but the flow on effect is questionable. (Not really well researched) and turnovers are not increased proportionately to the vastly increased crowds on track at these meetings. Some say it's a good idea but if you're a regular it can be annoying to say the least. I know of numerous regular racegoers who have been put off going on these days and personally I have had two uncomfortable experiences which have led me to boycott such days as both a spectator / punter and owner / trainer.
I don't know if anyone caught the Kumara Gallops meeting yesterday if it was or not shown on Sky. It's one of those icon meetings where everyone who wants to be anyone goes if you are within 2-3 hours of the track. They always get huge crowds. Very much reminds me of Oakbank races in SA. (without the jumps)
yesterday's meeting included a "Fashions in the Field" competition for men and ladies. Prizes in the ladies category were the normal fashion type prizes but in true keeping with the "bush" community, the men's prize was, according to commentator Mark McNamara, $500 hunting and shooting equipment. No doubt one of the largest entry numbers for a male FinF comp.
I get 'page not found' Kev.....I imagine he has gone amiss has he??
Go to the NZ Harness Racing section Brent and then click on NZ News at least he top and the article is Aussie Trip Off For Rising Star.
http://www.harnesslink.com/New-Zeala...or-rising-star.
It is 4th picture story on NZ news page if that fails
Trainer sounds very astute and not happy with horse despite him winning trial
That's a bit of a shame. Connections of Yankee Rockstar, Bling It On etc won't mind though I wouldn't think.
TC, harness still seems to be an integral part of NZ's sporting fabric. In various threads the distance of Menangle and Melton from city centres raises its head - can you imagine what effect moving your Auckland and Christchurch tracks would have on the industry over there? It may not be a fair comparison as I suspect harness is/has always been stronger in NZ. I am interested in your opinion.
I am tuned into Sky2 for tonights big Auckland meet but it feels more like a music station as I am hearing more music than anything else, esp. when they cross to an interview WTF
What time is the Cup on Kev???
7.26
It may be a while before Michael G dismisses a horse on its warm up again
Adore Me has undergone vet exam post race.
Is mildly sore in behind though not considered serious.
Noticed that she put in a couple of funny ones just before the corner, Fantastic race. I heard that Christen Me was in a bad way over here before heading home but he's in fine fettle. Glad Adore Me is okay, Always a worry when you see a great horse put a couple of crooks steps in.
JUST ANNOUNCED...
Adore Me has been retired from racing.
After cooling down further vet examinations subsequent to Friday's Auckland Cup have revealed a fractured sesamoid bone..!!!!
For those interested in a little horse anatomy

She should be a great broodmare
Very sad indeed, Now she moves onto the breeding barn once the Sesamoid has healed and for me this is very interesting, Tony has let me know his thoughts on Stallion choice but I would like to hear other people's views as well, No doubt what so ever that she will be a fine broodmare and will be given every possible opportunity by her owners.
One of those little islands that TC lives on has a BIG day today. It is actually half over as they are early birds over there but the for the BIG ones (R.8 & 10) tune in at 1.24 and 2.40 AEST

edit: Is our TAB covering the main race, I see no R10 listed
Unbelievable - Sky 2 has a 17min lead into Sha Tin - how easily could the $200k PGG Wrightson have been telecast!
The Orange Agent in a Record 1.54 for the 3yoF
The AllStars had the first 4 faves in the PGG and Lazarus proved the market right

It's consistent with the continual breaches of the agreements between NZ and Australian TAB's and racing industry organisations.
I guess I should be happy to see on this side of the ditch as much or more Australian racing than I care for but with your example above and the total lack of i.e.nil coverage and betting opportunities on what is Addington's 3rd biggest meeting of the year Easter Saturday. I'm glad the aforementioned agreements are up for renegotiation this year and NZ is keen to right some of these wrongs. After all our TAB pools are intermingled into TABCORP pools so when they do things like this punters, industry participants and the whole industry miss out from prizemoney, turnover and the opportunity to bet and collect.
Does NZ have a list of stallions anywhere?
For Aust we have
http://www.harness.org.au/ausbreed/studs/INDEX2.HTM
For NZ I can only find
http://issuu.com/nzsba/docs/2014-15_siresregister
which will cost me $25 to download
Not that I want the full register but the same thing cost $0 for Aust stallions
John Curtin of JC International, the man who brings you Harnesslink has some interesting things to say in the latest Insider Access which you can have emailed to you free - the very first tab at the top of any Harnesslink News page is how to subscribe
He is critical of the levy on all imported horses from New Zealand:
The reality was it didn't do anything for the Australian breeder with no great increase in breeding numbers and it has devastated the market for low priced horses being imported into Australia from New Zealand
Later in his criticism of the HRNZ Board he however praises the board of HRNSW including
In an effort to promote the local breed, Harness Racing New South Wales have set up the Colonial Bred Stallion scheme.
Under this scheme, any mare that produces a live foal to a colonial stallion is eligible for a $500 payment from Harness Racing New South Wales.
You would think that while the levy is having the effect of reducing racing numbers the Colonial scheme is looking to addressing the problem
The biggest thing I gained from this issue of Insider Access (which I must remember to always read from now on) was this link

This sad summary of harness racing in NZ written a couple of months ago is something everyone needs to read
Some very strong and correct words of wisdom from JC, Those salaries are staggering, NZ certainly has quite a few people sitting on big fat pay cheques who are underachieving, HRNZ are not alone in this department but they certainly need people involved that have a bit of business acumen and people who have experience in the game at the grassroots level and who are willing to listen to the masses and implement some of the better ideas.
