How quickly the sport has SPED UP
Go back little more than a couple of years and you would have been astonished to see 2yo's rating 1.56.7 at their first start (in the country at that)

Yankee Rockstar took 3.7 secs off the 2690m MS track record in winning the Kilmore Cup, albeit, the previous record was held by a trotter, Earl Of Mott.

Good times for a 768m track Greg. I am thinking it wouldn't have had any banking work either like some of our tracks eg Warragul which although only 70m bigger has great new banking and the 1790m record is already down to 1.54.8
Having watched it in a sports bar I did not pick up on the fact that Stunning Grin's Midura Cup heat win was a Track Record for 2600m - I could tell they were going fast mind you, especially early
Stunning Grin's 1.57.5 took 0.7 secs off Safari's 9 year old record.
Will he do it again in the Final on Saturday night?
If the emerg comes out he will be in gate 3 with the other hotshots in 4 and 5 with only 5 off the front

Indeed. Heza Head Honcho (2yo) went 1.55.8 at his first ever start at Bunbury. Times like that have become so commonplace it's not even mentioned any more.
On that note, isn't it time they changed the breeding records so that dark type horses need to run 1.55 now instead of 2.00? I remember back in the 90s that 2.00 was very fast, but now it's slow as hell and yet the horses that go inside 2.00 are black type
Last night the Swan Hill 1750 track record was broken twice!
First of all 3yo Warfare lowered it by 0.4 sec in a C0
Then 6yoM Sophies Ideal took a further 0.8 sec in the C6+ to make it a reduction of 1.2 secs and a new mark of 1.53.7

Park Life wins the APG 2yo F in 1.53.2 It is a second outside the NSW 2yoF record but I still find it amazing - it just reflects the improvement in times overall in this country
I could not find chronicles for the evolution of 2yo times but this link shows you the evolution for all-comers (NSW)
http://www.harness.org.au/hra/annual...rds/s_nswp.pdf
For the last 10yrs the 6 record holders have all had NZ after their name (I only counted Smoken Up once)
Before then we had periods where horses held the record for 10yrs
My Mackenzie's 1.52.4 winning the second at Menangle this afternoon is a fair effort for a 3yo filly.

The Australasian mile record for a 3yoF is 1.51.1 (The Orange Agent)
Just looking up what I thought was a fast time at Hamilton today, only to discover it is not within cooee of the Tk Rec and that the Tk Rec was broken twice on March 21 and is now 1.52.7 to the credit of Emmanuel (Spiritwriter briefly held it at 1.53.1)
Does anyone know what it was before March 21 (Alan?)
1.54.7 from a 2yo over the 1730m at Bathurst is only 1.4 secs outside the open age Tk Rec
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...sw#BHC18051602
Strong run from the second youngster, Conviction, Kev.
By a sire close to the McCarthy's heart. http://www.harness.org.au/racing/hor...horseId=788060 A good start to his siring career?
The well named Conviction was certainly impressive Wayne and For A Reason just needs a couple more to really fire from his first small crop of 33 to get himself a bigger book
Doing the usual scan of the day's results and noticed in the first race at Maryborough 3yoF Im Wrongly Accused ran her last Q in 26.8 in winning the C0
Probably not considered anything special nowadays - how things have changed!
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MHC16061603
It would appear to be some sort of time by Crockets Cullen at Warragul today.

http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#WRC20061601

http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#KIC25061601
Times A Bonus ignored his name and smashed the Maryborough 2190m Tk Rec by 1 whole second today. In fact the first 4 easily broke the record
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MHC29061601
Missed this one last night until I saw Cody's story
http://www.harness.org.au/news-artic...?news_id=30256
Major Crocker took 0.7 secs off the Mildura 2190m Tk Rec
He was first up and obviously appreciated what was his first real spell since debuting in 2013
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MLC29061601
The improvement in times is truly amazing. Forget the mile races even.
All the 2240m at Melton are all being run in the 1.56's
The advances in times this decade is incredible
Our Revenue Maker broke the Cranbourne Trotters 2575m SS Tk Rec tonight
A fair effort coming off 30m and winning by 17m (it was a small field of 5)
The record was nearly 7yrs old so its lowering was overdue
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#CRC19071608
1.56.4 by Three Ways at Cranbourne today was pretty quick
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#CRC16081602
It is amazing that Island Glow's 1.54.3 has stood for nearly 20 yrs
(I know I have said this before but it IS amazing)
A bit late on this one but I just noticed that 3yoF Wilma's Mate who easily won a TM0 at Melton tonight,
in winning the Derby at her previous start, broke the Maryborough Tk Rec for 2690m
This is a Biggie, on my reckoning, All Eyes On Us equalled the Melton 2240 Tk Rec rating 1.53.2 and coming home in about 54 for the last half
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MXM26081601
Sirladyn Reba's 1.54 at Terang tonight was only .3 sec off the Tk Rec and he won by 19m
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#TEC30081601
But more impressive was 2yo Rocknroll Icon having his first start rating 1.54.2 and sitting in the death when he poured the pressure on down the back. He won by 17m and it was nearly 60m to third

Hi Kevin
Both two years olds were enormous, the winner simply breath taking, but the second horse Jilliby Road Runner wasn't far behind.
Cheers
Mark
Fast times at Melton tonight with plenty of 1720m races
1.53.2, 1.53.0, 1.52.8 and Hectorjayjay's 1.51.7 which is less than a second outside the Tk Rec
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...X030916&ms=vic
Witzend just broke the Ararat 1790m Tk Rec rating 1.57.2
2nd placed Officianado deserved the record as he left the 1x1 and took the death off Witzend as he could see that the odds on fav Justbritell was going to get it too easy in the lead and after that the speed was on the whole way
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#ARC06091601
1.55.6 is over a sec outside the Tk Rec but nevertheless Lets Elope time after going to the death is a very good time at little Mildura
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MLC08091601
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#MXM17091606
As Dan called "that is about as fast as we get for 3yo's, early season 3yo's!"
Sirletic 1.53.7
Very fast racing at Melton tonight
Jilliby Jagger's 1.51.9 was less than a sec outside the Tk Rec for 1720m
Messini's 1.54.2 was only a sec outide the Tk Rec for 2240m
You have to watch The Jet Player's 1.55.4 in a C2 at Geelong tonight, he has duelled for the lead, sat in the death, won by 24m untouched and is only 1.1 secs outside the Tk Rec
http://www.harness.org.au/meeting-re...ic#GEC28091602

Beaudeane Boaz broke the track record at GP last night in the pouring rain. 1.52.9 for a 2130m
(And on a biased note, our little trotter Sunnys Little Whiz won in the 3rd fast time for a trotter on a 900m or less track, also on a wet track.1.58.8 for a 2130m race; that puts her second behind the horse she beat last night, Cardigan Boko, in terms of MR for the distance :D )
Good one KT
