Yearling Sales 2025
Note: At some point I will move this thread to the Breeding section
I have been avoiding thinking about how bad the Melbourne yearling sales might be this year
APG may have found a solution - although it is an indictment on the state and the state of the industry
There are only 67 lots for sale (56 pacers)
In 2024 there were 111 lots
That is 40% less horses and may create demand through scarcity for those not worrying about the state of the industry in Vic
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/the...year-in-style/
A quick little bit of research revealed 134 pacers went through the ring in 2022
Yep - that is way less than half this year
The only professionals still in the industry probably don't know what else to do and maybe consider themselves in semi retirement. Other than that they must be rich and this is really only a hobby.
I cannot see how any young person (needing to make money) should be encouraged to remain in the industry in this state

Late start today = 1pm for after withdrawals there are only 60 lots (pacers and trotters) to auction

It has been a bad start - most being passed in - some can't get a $6k bid
Have had one fetch $33k
Who pays all these Sales staff - not enough being collected to pay them
-
It is as if the decline in Vic prizemoney has translated to the sale in that the first bid is generally a mere $6k
-
We got up to $50k for Lauriston's Lot 27 but Passed In
-
A delay as there bidding screen has packed it in at the half way mark
-
Lauriston finally got one over the line with King Of Swings first offering sold for $82,500 (a filly)
Dam, Queen Of Pop may have had something to do with it
-
A couple of well bred/well related trotters have gone for < $20k
-
The Perth sale is the big APG one
With 150 lots - it is as big as the other states combined

I thought more than that Passed In. Some may have sold last night
