So much easier when you could just scroll through the fields for the meeting in one go. Must have a “click” counter on the new HRNZ site
Oh thanks Kev that’s an improvement but I’d prefer to be able to see the whole field for a race at the same time as you could before. The new layout is “pretty” but not very practical for those trying to scan a field to make an quick assessment. I’m also very disappointed that they have reduced their pedigree information significantly. Another “pretty” not practical change.
What have they changed for the pedigrees Dot? (I cannot remember the old now)
We have a hell of a range in some of the Jewels on Saturday (starting 10.15am our time)
Of course this is greatest in the 2yo's
In the 2yo C&G we have Skippys Delight with 1 start (3rd) and $720 prizemoney
up to One Change with 4/4 wins and $212,707
(5 of the 12 starters are looking for their maiden win)
In the 2yo F we have Dr Susan with $5460
up to Sweet On Me with $171,960
I have paid my $5 for Sky2 (assuming that is where most of the races will be) and am looking forward to the day (and some upsets?)
Favourites on the Vic TAB's Fixed Price market
R1 $1.12
R2 $2.40
R3 $1.65
R4 $1.50
R5 $1.75
R6 $1.60
R7 $1.15
R8 $2.25
R9 $1.45
Except for R8 they are ALL All Stars horses
I cannot help but think that they are bad for racing in NZ and regardless of how good their horse flesh is, it begs the question - how can they be that much better?
Is that on a phone Dot?
Still get full ped on my desktop
Don't know how many fingers you have, Dot, but if you clicked on Elle Mac in race 1 you get the first 4 generations. Click on the last dam and you get the next 4, then the next 4, etc. Looks pretty good to me.
Can't beat good old parochialism, eh Kev?
Good owners, good horses, great trainers and acceptance of nothing but perfection might give the stable an edge.
There are only four ways I can think of to explain their dominance Trev
a) they are better trainers than anyone else in the world
b) success breeds success in that they are just about the only ones given the best bred horses in NZ
c) only immaculately bred horses become superstars
d) they have found something that is undetectable which gives their horses an advantage
Call me parochial if you like Trev. I could elaborate on all of the above but won't other than to say that c) is not true

Well if we follow Mark Purdon's tips, our best value bets might be to bet against him in
R2 Ultimate Stride $3.60
R8 Sundees Son $2.25
Aussies have not fared too well in the draws (8 across the front)
R1 No9 Major Occasion
R5 No5 All Cashed Up (strangely the only one given the AUS tag)
R7 No8 Falcon Stride
R8 No11 Majestic Player
R9 No9 Petes Big Jim
Sadly the weather is predicted to be shocking (= Victoria's Wednesday)
Only 8 degrees max, rain & wind
Addington is going to have to be a VG track for this meeting to go on
Christchurch have had 2 inches (51mm and still raining) since midnight
https://www.metservice.com/towns-cit...istchurch-city
Although HRNZ is stating
"Despite current weather conditions the IRT Harness Jewels racing to commence as scheduled at 12.15pm"
When you click on any horse you will get a comprehensive form summary
One very interesting one in what I will call their track conditions chart is
Right v Left
Being at Addington we are racing Left today
https://infohorse.hrnz.co.nz/datahrs...s/060132fd.htm
Allstars win the first, no surprise there. Track is remarkably good, plenty of water in places on the inside
And in the 2nd the 2yo trotters misbehaved as expected and we get 33/1 pop Bolt For Brilliance take his earnings from $4k to $68k
before the All Stars win R3 as expected
Another easy win to the All Stars in R4
In the next Jason Bonnington writes that Enhance Your Calm is 'often-poorly-mannered'
https://www.thetrots.com.au/news/art...els-game-plan/
He has won 9 with 1 second from 10 starts
Jason Bonnington knew something! (Although it was his selection and his value bet did nothing)
Tony Herlihy has now won 2 and is only 1 behind the All Stars
So far the Aussies have wasted their time travelling
Good drive by Zac Butcher (taking cover from the back straight wind) saw Belle Of Montana get up by a nose to give Bettors Delight his 3rd winner so far.
It was somewhat predicted in the following article
http://www.harnesslink.com/New-Zeala...ving-much-away
Princess Tiffany had the much tougher run
Who would you rather own 'the toughy' or 'the speedster' ?
The winner!
Well the All Stars ended up with 5/9 Gp1's
Bettors Delight Delight ended up siring 4/6 pacing Gp 1's, in the other two he got a 2nd in one and was the broodmare sire of the winner in the other. He also got a trifecta
Muscle Hill won 2/3 trotting Gp1's both trained and driven by Tony Herlihy
The Aussies - well I hope they enjoyed the hospitality
I know some Aussies who will be bringing home TWO nice Jewels trophies!
The Feiss's
Hi Dot . Interesting you should say that. The no 1 improvement and reason for the "upgrade " was to meet your issue head on. The site is designed to offer full page view adjusted to meet the medium you are using to view the site. i.e. …
It should automatically recognise if you are using a phone, tablet, desktop or any other option and adjust to that medium automatically @ full page view.
Suggest you clear out any previous cached versions.. prior May 1 and try reloading.
Hi Teecee my credentials as a techno nuffy are well established and I freely confess I have no idea how to clear out any previous cached versions of how to reload on my phone! Is closing all the windows in the browser enough or is there more to it then that?
I think I do get the optimised mobile version on my phone but what I would like as I don’t have access to a desktop or other device is to be able to access the less optimum version via my phone to view extended pedigrees. Other sites not necessarily related to harness racing often offer that by clicking on desktop view on a mobile device but I don’t see that option here.
For what it’s worth, and possibly part of the same problem whilst it may not be “computer geek” optimum for a mobile being able to see an entire field on the one page for a racing person it certainly is. Also, as feedback for HRNZ, a couple of regular punters here ( though perhaps not in NZ) have been very critical of the new site on twitter for not being able to view an entire field at once, or scroll through the entire fields in one go on a page. I don’t imagine they are only using a mobile phone for access.
No tech guru Dot but this might help. Open your settings and scroll down to find your browser, pretty sure it will be safari. Open it and find clear history, cookies data.
But I take no responsibility for anything else that happens.

Trying to do form for Harness Jewels Day makes me appreciate that the Australian harness website has panels on the NZ one.

The new HRNZ site has removed any remote interest I had left in NZ harness racing. What a shocking website.
I guess not Kev. If I select the expand all races button I can scroll through the fields but I cannot see all runners in a race on the page at the same time.
Not sure what you mean Kev. I can use the expand the fields button but I cannot get more then five horses on the page at a time, and they look more like an online shopping site then a race field. So much better when I could see the whole field on the page with all the pertinent info available at a glance.
I meant you are wrong to say they are using anymore than a phone because the NZ site is sweet for tablet, and desktop users
