Yes, congratulations to the connections of Im Themightyquinn on their ID11 win. Well done and now onto ID12. Back to back ID wins ?
If there was ever a "bad way" to win a major title it would be this.
Is there a review of the swabbing process in NZ to be conducted? Sounded like a bit of a shambles. Less than ideal when you are dealing with prizemoney of this size.
...for the lead up races & the Miracle Mile. He would go some absolutely wicked time at Menangle. It'd be a shame if he didn't come over.
Hi Jaimie
I stand to be corrected but the last I heard he is concentrating on the big ones at home and the Victorian Feature.... I was a tad surprised because I fancy, like you, that he would go quick!
Cheers
Would love to see him let down in a straight line at Menangle....!
Off a trip with some genuinely hot pace up front he's got a sub 26 closing quarter, no risk. Washakie the same. If Smoken Up gets loose on the lead and either of those two can stick with him deep into the stretch then they'd not only break the record, I reckon they could break 1:48.
Hope we see him here Brendan, that's for sure but as I said earlier the mail I got says we won't.... I really hope the mail is off the money!!!
If ITMQ heads to Menangle, then so will I. What a sight he would make headin up the straight. Neat horse.
Oh and Fred, just thought I would say you're gathering a fan club over my neck of the woods. Most of us have a horse racing in NSW (although we struggle to fill fields at our own club!). Keep up the good work mate.
Yes, totally agree with DC , Fred , you are doing a great job. Really enjoy your calls. http://www.postsmile.net/img/19/1943.gif
Thanks Guys, Very Kind... I appreciate it.
Still learning and have a long way to go but I love what I do for a job and hope it comes through in some way during the races....
Join the Fred Hastings fan club on Face Book - I did!!!! :)
It is unlikely such a review will happen. Why would it. Nothing to review. Defence conceded so at Smoken up hearing satisfied how the sample was taken and processed. Have you read the findings report at www.jca.org.nz Defence had a problem with the level of security but in my experience that is not the clubs or any other third party absolute responsibility. If you are a trainer with a horse at the track to race it is your responsibility and IMO common sense and professional approach to ensure the safety and security of your horse. Be it an Interdom heat NZ Cup or maiden.
Level of prizemoney is not a prerequisite to the standards and protocols for swabbing or any other way that racing is controlled.
Inter all his?
Smoken Up just won't be able to match his speed around that final turn imo.
What fight lol?
I'm not anti Smoken Up or anything like that if thats what you think, just pro-ITMQ.
Cant wait to see if Washakie can get a front row draw and lead a Heat, should be at ok odds and he absolutely loves leading on that track.
I do think Smoken may unfortunately struggle on the little track, he hated Moonee Valleys last turn and this has to be smaller...
Should be a given for the pint sized local.
was track side last night and wow ITMQ was amazing. the crowd just went crazy when he started rounding up the field,
I think if washaki found the death a bit easier might of been a touch closer, and it looked like the tire of Feelgood came off the rim
Bring on the inters
If Smoken Up doesn't get to the front' he's history. WA drivers always attack for the lead so SU would find it difficult getting to the lead unless he draws one or two as he has been doing consistently of late. You get tired of watching boring old Smoken Up going round.....he's only got one game plan and that's trying to get to the front. On the other hand ITMQ...... absolutely spectacular. I know GP is a classified 800 metre track but they race just about in the middle of the track so that would extend its circumference to about 900 metres or more. Smoken Up doesn't seem to have any trouble handling Globe Derby - another 800 metre track.
You get tired of watching boring old Smoken Up going round.
Lord what a strange thing to say mighty atom, I wouldn't if I owned him & the owners probley don't either.
I dont usually publicly bring a world of criticism down too harshly on Drivers, but Has The Answers driver, holy crap (in my opinion) what an idiot.
The horse struggles to win a normal FFA in Perth leading over 2500 and often gets rolled cos it has no stamina at that distance, and last night over 2900 he reckons he can lead all the way, sorry, what an idiot. Take a sit and give your owners a chance at place money for crying out loud. Man that makes me angry. Last you fool!
Great run Washakie, totally would have been 2nd or 3rd if death seated or very close to winning if led. He was 3 wide last 2 laps pretty much.
Also great run Raglan, was on ITMQ's back at bell before Hall pushed turbo button and he lost contact, but he also came around every horse 4-5 wide and was gaining on Quinn at finish as Quinns run had ended.
That was a great preview of what will happen in ID heats and final.
Hopefully a certain driver learnt a lesson, i would have been embarrassed, Has The Answers can only attempt to lead and win over the 1700 or 2100 against THIS company. Otherwise take a sit.
So true Ash , am a big Has the Answers fan , but that drive totally stunk! 42 metres behind ITMQ in last place. He is good up front , but over 2900 , never. Has come from behind previously and won , so easing back at the start would have been a better option. Note that I am another expert "grandstand driver" ( who knows everything after the event) , as you can see :-)
I also can not believe how disappointing Mr Feelgood is going over there. Fair enough, there might have been excuses in the first run , but last night he was just awful. Surely there must be something wrong with him. Hope I am wrong , but his Inter campaign is not looking too bright. Also can not believe how short his price was last night ($3-20 for a win).
P.S. Just read the stewards report and looks like Mr Feelgood had a flat tyre for the last two laps , so all is forgiven for now. However , will wait till he shows some of his old fight.
Don't forget Lewis on Dasher VC!!! Keeping the breeze.........what an earth are these blokes doing. Think a bit
I think a couple of the drivers got caught up with the emotion of such a big race and made some poor decisions. Several good runs outside the champ. Washakie , in what he had to do , three wide for a lot of the race, was outstanding and was also impressed by the way Raglan got to the line.
Yes well said David. Huge Washakie. You just have to be cautious with having had such a tough run though for next start. I liked David Hercules' run just quietly ;-) Stuck behind tired horses but finished off quite well I thought. Winner was off and gone and it was too late.
You are harsh. I think poor old trigger has done plenty to prove himself. What if Quinn draws one to four then what. Every horse has a different racing style smoken up is great at the front of the field and Quinn does well from the back.
No one knocks Quinn so have the same respect for the other true champ Smoken up.

So true Maorisidol, unfortunately Has The Answers is going to be a real pest in any ID heats (if he gets a start). He very rarely gets headed for the lead and very rarely takes a sit. At any distance beyond 2100 metres he's found wanting, you wouldn't want to sit behind him and he will make it difficult for any horse on the outside because of his high speed for a couple of laps. I know he has been a great old horse but he doesn't belong in an ID. However don't agree with you regarding Washakie, he's a fast one pace horse but he wouldn't have the sectionals (sprint ) to beat ITMQ.
I've seen horses with acceleration, but wow when G.Hall Jr launched ITMQ last night, well that was something else. Toughness can win you races but raw unadalterated speed like that can win you a lot more.
What is the go with WA drivers all loving the three wide train? Its a race to see who can lead it up over there. They love the death seat also, and refuse to hand it up. No track in Australia sees drivers launch earlier than GP. Its not just in the big races either, watch any FFA over there.
ITMQ did not produce his best at his last eastern states campaign.I reckon something wasn't quite right after his Miracle Mile run. As I have said on a previous post he had contracted a slight cold, probably manifesting through his 4 runs and it took his usual dash away from him somewhat. On top of that dehydration and he just wasn't himself.
Totally agree. Purely from a spectacle point of view high class racing at GP is as good as it gets.
I was not old enough to judge Popular Alm, I've only seen videos of thw champ and certainly not saying ITMQ is in the same class as Poppy, but the way G Hall Jnr let him go down the back straight on Friday night certainly looked reminiscent of one of Poppy's Victoria Cup wins..his high speed is just incredible.
One thing I've learnt though is to never underestimate a champion, and Smoken Up is just that. I disregarded BAF on too many occassions, and have done the same with Smoken Up over the past 18 months (to the detriment of my wallet.)
The Inters is shaping up to be an absolute classic.
Watching GP racing is like watching a bunch of hyped up 3 year olds hit each other with baseball bats. Fascinating and horrifying at the same time.
