First two Heats to sons of Mach Three. I can hear the Alabar Crew cheering from here.
and the next Heat (3) to a son of Royal Mattjesty.
First three colts Heats to Matts Scooter line horses, the 2nd and 3rd heats being quinellas to the same.
...and the wave rolls on. Heat 4, the first of the fillies, to a daughter of Mach Three. (bred my Mouse House no less)
Hey Trev, when are you going to put the colours on again????? Brian needs a back-up driver for Darren, he sometimes has his own runners to drive. Howard does not get any drives!
Hahahaha. BPH is finding it hard enough to win a race as its is without me driving them but I'll offer my services again and see what he says :)
Geeze Steve, don't stir up the Hornet's Nest.
Trevor has a snow white skull cap that looks like it escaped from Pony Club and when Brian's driving one he turns up at the track decked out in a cream turtle necked skivvy and a tweed coat. We just can't have it.
Have no fears Jaimie, my driving days are a thing of the past and, unless BPH has a change of mind, his days as a trainer may soon be likewise
Check out the sires of the winners/placegetters.
It started off with a 4 for 4 rush for Mach Three/Matts Scooter line & with a couple of quinellas thrown in, then Caesar Augustus (Bettor's Delight) pulverised them (onya Rosario) and that was followed by a Heartland Hanover filly scoring, then a Presidential Ball gelding and last but not least, the ultra impressive last week and home again in front this week Armbro Operative filly, Just A Bit Sassy.
Just A Bit Sassy for the fillies final.
Caesar Augustus in the colts.
Barring bad lack or ill-health, I can't see either getting beaten.
Your right Murray, she looks the real deal.......wonder what went wrong, it is a $50,000 final!!!!!!!!
The first horse to catch my attention as a young follower......what a lightning sprint he had.......the others looked like they were nailed to the fence when old Joe took off on him!.........Tudor Royal, just short of top class, but possible my favourite horse, used to back him when he was coming through the grades for Kevin Robinson, the pocket talks heaps, won plenty on him!...........Manaroa, the "ugly duckling" but he could do it all, sprint and stay, and was not a big horse........used to wear a white neck strap, that stood out against his black coat.......loved him!!! Another favourite was Repentant Leisure, trained by Neville Hargreaves, I am always saying that name..........wish I was sitting back in "repentant leisure" now.....I used those words once in a high school essay, my female teacher almost had an orgasm saying how much those words were charismatic and beautiful.......little did she know where I got them from!!!!!
I remember those horses well but the Manaroa that I remember didn't have a black coat - he was a bay
Ok, we can go with a sweaty dark bay:)
Here's a video I found of Manaroa.....at least I got the white neck strap right!

[VVV] Now and again BPH still wears one of George Wiley's old cardigans. You can't miss it. It's kind of a grey-green colour and it smells like a combination of Camphor & White Ox tobacco. If Brian were to have a good ferret around in the right hand pocket he'll probably find a set of George's false teeth.
I watched an interview that David Fowler did with Peter Greig & he said old Joe would stop on the way to the races & put the hopples on the horses to get the length cause they hadn't had the hopples on them ....bit of a character Joe was , I think Rocket was his best horse & he sure was a fast 2yo. Repentant Leisure what a top name. Had a look at her maternal line before & after her (if thats how it works) & some good horses in there , Baltic Eagle , Alta Serena , Pompallier , Can Return Fire & a very good 3yo in WA Gracias Para Nada .
I saw the Peter Greig interview to, how honest was he....he talked about betting plunges, getting a quid out of a race.......other drivers and horses.....he said you need to be a "punting stable".
Yes, that name has never left my mind..........can't remember that much about other than it came from NZ and Neville Hargreaves was the trainer.
some of my other favourite horses were "Tiny Rebel" for Vince Munday......I don't think there was ever a faster stand start beginner than Tiny, it could lead off 20 metres before they hit the first turn!
The first horse to really grab me was a NZ bred colt by Armbro Hurricane named Wilton Royale. He was wicked fast & from what I can remember of him, such a classy horse. That would have been back in the mid/late 1970's. Years later that same immediate family/damline was responsible for producing Peter Rixon's outstanding horse, Divisive. Though they were foaled some 30+ years apart, I always thought both horses has a lot in common.
Out of Princess Grace who also left grand stayer VANADIUM. trained by Ces Devine and Later Jack Smolenski...

Are you talking about "the Ugly Duckling" MANAROA. He was part of a trio of GC horses trained here by owner Colin McLaughlin. Others being Manawaru and Royal Ascot. Colin left Manaroa with Nev Hargreaves after the Brisbane ID's 1972 or thereabouts. He was called the ugly duckling because of his real ugly mug and rats tail.
But he was one of our very best in a truly vintage crop when real top horses were just that.
teecee, no a horse named Repentant Leisure that Neville had also...........Manaroa, a fantastic horse........never say die.......what's cookin on the barbie tonight???????
If someones got footage of some of those wins of Manaroa, would love to see them posted. Cannot get enough of that old footage, huge crowds. You can almost smell the excitement coming out of the laptop. Or is that TeeCees BBQ I'm getting whiffs of?
I'll have to take my fur ball medicine before trying that......we have kangaroo tails over here......you tried them?...........if it can be arranged, I would be happy to cook them for you!
No, I wasn't talking about Manaroa earlier, but Repentant Leisure, another horse trained by NBH.
Hey Brad, you tipping anything at Menangle tonight?
Yep. Not as tasty as croc tongue..yummy
that might be a goer. Can't remember trying them.
Spent 5 years in Arnhemland NT with the hunters and gatherers where meat and 5 veg were the non norm..!!! (is that a word??)
No thoughts.........you can deal with the tomato sauce in Perth!......Thought Fox Valley Appeal had a little chance in R5 Menangle....just a little if it could lead!
Bit stiff, shame the Captain wasn't over in WA for the ID
Yes, anywhere else but getting a rails run at Menangle, played him with the aptain in the Quinella, which paid $39, but ht ewin bwt would have been the icing on the cake.........
