Dawn of a new Day has an impressive list of progeny for his price tag imho.
you can probably get a Village Jasper service for around that
...but they'd either be around that mark or less.
Sutter Hanover...we've got a couple of terrific colts by him & they're both BIG too but big framed, not heavy boned. Oldest is a yearling back in work as of today, he's a really good horse and he could be a great one if he has the motor & the will to win to match his frame & huge stride/great gait.
Artistic Fella... we bred just the one filly by him but she was a big strong girl & was going great guns up in QLD in her early training (current season 2yo) but she got injured.
Parsons Den...leaves some very genuine horses that give you all they've got each time they step out. Can get an outstanding youngster now & again.
Riverboat King...if he is still around? Greatly underestimated sire.
Always A Virgin...really great gaited horse, he leaves good looking, good sized foals. First crop raced well in Indiana.

thanks for that everyone..when you look at it we do have an excellent selection of "cheaper" sires avail to us..throw in Life Sign,Our Sir Vancelot & Red River Hanover just to name a few to the ones already mentioned makes for a pretty good list...Julius Caesar seems to be one in the cheaper range that could most likely throw some thing special though..
I heard that Julius Caesars fee will be going up next season, due to the success of his nz foals and the amount of mares he has been getting . He almost had a runner in the Miracle Mile !!

How many mare's did Julius Caesar get in the 12/13 season as i can only find previous years.
10/11 served 126 and had 83 live foals
11/12 served 78 and had 47 live foals
anyone had much to do with IT IS I progeny?...I got a filly by him & she is super nice..easily qualified 1st pop with a limited prep

I don't know the exact amount but I was told it was over 100.
Artistic Fella on a bit of a roll right now. Pretty solid sort of a debut given the quality & number of mares he got for his initial AUS crop.
he sure is mate...i really liked him as a race horse,one of my fav's
I have an Artistic Fella 2yr old gelding that has amazing amounts of stamina. He's a solid bugger and I think he might go okay when the penny drops. Lot to like about Artistic Fella, he's a magnificent specimen in the flesh. Dropped into Empire a while back and he's very light on his feet for a big boy.

I have 2 fillies, a yearling and a baby from 2 different mares and they have plenty of room between their front legs and have lovely rounded rear ends.
GOTTA GO COLLECT--- First crop of 2yr olds in Nz this year. 125 2yr olds for 1 winner to date. Not a great beginning. Too early to write off but needs some serious runners and quick

Go easy Viv. He's only had 6 to the races for nine starts. I think trainers have learnt the CUF lesson that just because a horse was precocious himself does make his progeny so. If fact I think but not absolutely certain till I do some further research, the 2yo racing crop is not that big so far this year. Bit of the "same old same old" going each week. What they look like of course is the domain of the breeder. How they go is the domain of the trainer.Quote:

Viv Elsu would have licked Changeover. Unfortunately has not equalled similar success to cuf and cc for him at stud. Despite a very fair opportunity.
Easy to forget Grant how good he was as i did. But as you say he has not done the job in the barn despite getting every opportunity. All the others mentioned are desendants of the Direct Scooter line which has excelled in Nz for over 15 years.
how does LIFE SIGN sit with you all?...still pretty good value at $2k I reakon

Elsu was never going to make it as a sire. I said as much to Jackie Gibson the 1st year the horse went to stud. IMO he always had two massive negatives, he was not a particularly good type & so was apt to sire them in his own image & more importantly than anything, he had what I always thought was a terrible gait. To my eye he went awful in front.
It was a way of going he obviously had the motor to drive and so to live with but when his progeny got various versions of it...only sans the size of motor required to drive it...it was all over bar the shouting.
On the other hand Changeover is physically a much better type & had an infinitely better way of going. Chalk and Cheese. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Changeover make the grade. Would have been stunned if Elsu ever did.
Depending on her size, Metropolitan might be worth some consideration. Gentle Spirit has a heap of Adios blood and this is great to work with. If she's a big girl, I would be looking at all of your options.
thanks Richard..Ive only ever bred 2 but find breeding & the theorys of breeding very intreging..Its interesting to peruse through the HRA on-line stats to see what crosses & combinations actually have put results on the board.
