One punter's bizarre move of placing a wager in excess of $150,000 via the Victorian tote pool on a nondescript race at Urawa in Japan on Thursday has left everyone scratching their heads.

North Luciole was sent around at $1.00 on the tote for race seven at Urawa after the mammoth wager was placed in the final minutes of betting before the field jumped.

The filly was a $21 chance on fixed odds with the corporate bookies, while it went around at $16.50 and $19.40 on the NSW and Qld totes respectively.

North Luciole never looked a winning chance in the 1400m race, with I'll Be The One a dominant winner.
The winner, who was around $3 fixed odds, paid $157.50 on the Vic tote, while North Luciole finished out of the money in sixth place.

So why did the punter place such a bet through the tote which meant it would start at the money-back quote of $1.00? Well that remains a complete mystery.
