An excellent dissection of mare services by Brad Reid makes excellent reading and indicates who is in or out of favour in NZ. NB: Pacing stallions only.

As an aside, numbers suggest the NSW-bred Vincenthas defied the Colonial stallion curse covering 95 mares in NZ in his fifth season at stud. Apart from being leading first season sire in NZ, a check of the current Australian 2 and 3 year old winners list shows only his ageing sire Art Major and himself as resident stallions, the rest being shuttles.

Reports of Bettor's Delight waning in influence remain a myth. Captaintreacherous had limited numbers and his unproven son Captain Crunch is all the rage with breeders and yearling buyers. Another son, and a stallion I really like, Downbytheseaside appears out of favour both sides of the Tasman.but perhaps this is a side effect of only having frozen semen available. As Brad Reid suggests, once Sinbad gets a few good barrier draws in NZ the spotlight will fall on his sire.
