They would have to make a pot of tea and simmer up a packet of cocktail frankfurts and there budget would be blown. After all, it is only a $2.1 million race.
WTF why isnt the barrier draw a public event!
Harness Racing NSW advises that the barrier draw for the TAB EUREKA race will be conducted at 9am on Tuesday 29 August 2023 at HRNSW Offices.
The result of the barrier draw will remain confidential until the barriers are revealed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia on Wednesday 30 August 2023, commencing at 9am.
Consequently, HRNSW Stewards order that all betting on the TAB EUREKA race is to be suspended from 6pm on Monday 28 August 2023 until the finalisation of the barrier reveal on Wednesday 30 August 2023.
For clarity, the barrier draw for the TAB EUREKA race is a Preferential Barrier Draw based on the Age and Sex of the horses engaged. The emergencies will be drawn into the field.
Consequently, for the ten (10) horses confirmed in the slots for the race and the four (4) emergencies, the possible barriers are as follows:
1-4 3 year old Colts & Geldings;
5 4 year old Mare- Encipher;
6-14 4 year old male horses.

Slot holders and owners should be insisting that the draw is public - trust nobody
All they have to do is take a barrel and a few ping pong balls down to the gallery venue - well a bit more wouldn't hurt but still it MUST BE PUBLIC

Oh dear. He doesn't realise final field is out and it has moved from Futures to the Date of the race.

But oh dear, how right he is about the ludicrous secret barrier draw

Marketing has been average for the whole thing. Slot holders had to put a case for why they should get a slot and HRNSW cant even make the draw an event

It has created zero interest among my circle of friends who, in the main, are horse enthusiasts.
Trev, it should be creating interest

I suppose it is because nobody follows us - the names above mean nothing to them
How do we turn that around?
If we show them past performances, they will be meaningless to non fans. What could I show a non follower which would make them say "That is incredible!"
The best I can think of is a handicap event/stand start where a horse comes from a mile behind to get up and win
A horse that wins 20 races in a row
A horse that wins a big race overseas
A horse that wins a $Million race - probably my 4th choice (in this quick brainstorm) but what we have in the Eureka and what we have to get before the public even if it is after the event
BUT if a horse leads all the way it won't thrill any non-follower - I go back to my first selection: 'a horse winning from a seemingly impossible position'
To make our sport more exciting/interesting I believe we have to stage these kind of handicap races. How do you get owners of good horses to agree to taking part in such races? Maybe ¼ of the prizemoney goes to the horse who records the fastest MR
I am off topic and probably raving but I am really desperate for somebody to revive our sport if it is not already too late
