Captain Ravishing’s trainer Ahmed Taiba was pleased with the four-year-old’s Menangle private trial win yesterday and the barrier draw.

“It’s been a good few days and we needed them,” he said. “His work was terrific and we feel back on track and now we’ve drawn quite well, certainly inside Leap To Fame and Catch A Wave. We feel like we’re in it with a chance now.”

How about a bit of realism - you simply DO NOT WIN the biggest race of the season on this lead up. To place would be a small miracle

Thats ridiculous. Still only calculate market % on the actual starters. Imagine emergency is $2.00 and they frame a market to 120%. $2 Emerg takes up 50% leaving 70% for the other runners. If you stake strategically you could guarantee a profit (if emerg doesn't get a start) as you're betting into a market that is at 70%. Eg fantasty 4 horse field below

    1 Blacks A Fake $50 (2%). Have $2 on BAF = $100 if wins
    2 Lazarus $4 (25%). Have $25 on Laz = $100 if wins
    3 Quinny $3 (33%). Have $33 on Quinn = $99 if wins
    4 Smoken Up $10 (10%). Have $10 on Smoken = $100 if wins.
    5 Tims a Trooper (Emerg) $2 (50%)

That is $70 spend for guaranteed $100 winnings. Guaranteed $30 win if emergency doesn't get a start. Shows how ridiculous PP looking at market % including the emergencies is.

    Deductions won't apply to emergencies.

Check out Oakleigh Plate bottom 3 are emergencies https://www.racenet.com.au/group-one...oakleigh-plate

    Check the 0.00 deduction https://www.tab.com.au/racing/2023-0...DOWN/M/R/9/Win

Check out Queen of the Turf bottom 2 are emergencies https://www.races.com.au/races/group...e-turf-stakes/

    Check the 0.00 deduction https://www.tab.com.au/racing/2023-0...WICK/S/R/9/Win

We shall see the deductions posted this time tomorrow.

How do you think they divvy up the prizemoney
    1st is $1m
If the slot holder does not own the horse, you would think it might be 50/50
However what about the trainer and driver
Does the trainer get 10% of 1M ie $100k
and the driver 5% ie $50k
That only leaves $850k and at 50/50 = $425k for slot holder + $425k for owner

If all of the above was correct, the trainer and driver are the big winners
They normally take 11.76% & 5.88% of what the owner gets
For the Eureka they would be getting 23.5% and 11.75% of what the owner gets

That is of course unless Leap To Fame wins

I asked if anyone was watching the eureka tomorrow night , everyone at the table said, what's that?
I could not be bothered explaining . So no interest at all with our friends .

We are not newsworthy I am afraid
I really believe in what I wrote about handicap racing to produce exciting footage
We have to have a product that a layperson can identify as exciting
eg. even Amore Vita breaking the Shep Tk Rec by 35m last night is only discernible to the expert
If Leap To Fame does the same thing in The Eureka tomorrow it too will mean nothing to the layperson unless he is 35m in front and they can sell it to the general public so as to capitalize on it over the remainder of the season

That's all well & good Kev but I really don't think people are intrested in harness racing anymore. People in the Gallops follow champions, but you don't get rejects winning the Melbourne Cup.

People are most definitely NOT interested in harness racing anymore.
We are virtually starting from scratch except for the considerable fact that we are up and running
The only problem is - our product is not exciting enough in the current form for the public of today
Funny to say that as even today, over 50yrs later, some of the most exciting entertainment I have enjoyed is going to The Showgrounds as a teenager

One of the funniest thing ever was at Newcastle showgrounds on the 510 mtr track or there abouts. Was when a horse fell on the first lap & it lay there. The horses went around it to the outside the next lap. The lap after they went to the inside of it. And the last lap someone actually ran over it.
I wish I could find the viedo of it.
    Someone may have it.
