the first smart thing i have seen written here .....................
I was never a big fan of Sam Nati on "In the Gig" but it was always very clear that he loves the sport. I think he has done a great job since taking over and I'm sure he will do his best to clean things up and not just brush them under a rug. This story just keeps getting bigger and I bet there's a lot more to come. I hope the other states are watching and make sure that their houses are in order.
Don't die wondering !

Steward's report Race 8 at penrith last night the winner got inside run from stable mate they finished 1-2 and nothing mentioned just thought it was a bit odd or am i just suspicious of steward's and consistency
RACE 8 – TRENT WATERHOUSE PACE – 1720 METRES
IMA COLLINA was subject to pre race blood testing.
The driver of BLISSFULL PRINCESS (A Towers) was reprimanded under Rule 156(3)(b) for unacceptable whip use over the concluding stages of the event.
The trainer of EASTWOOD KESTREL NZ (M Tuema) was fined the sum of $100 for failing to gain permission from the Stewards to warm the horse up prior to the running of Race 8.
Permission was granted for B Sarina to replace the indisposed G McElhinney on RUNAWAY MATE.
Have whoever you want on but don't ever have yourself on
Watched that one too Greg. You've got a jaundiced eye matebut given recent events I doubt anyone can blame you. For a while we'll all be seeing rats under roofing iron, whether they're there or not. Nothing nefarious...I believe both horses are bred & owned by trainer, driver & family.
It's true , triple. My harness friends and I seem to be taking more than a passing interest in driving tactics these days and are closely scrutinising drives. A lot more than we did previously.
That's probably a good thing , however when something looks decidedly "fishy" we really need the stewards to do a lot more than accept a driver's often glib explanation and do no more than beat them around the ears with a wet lettuce! Disclaimer - this is in no way a comment on the race mentioned specifically in this thread as have not seen.
G'day Ozninja,
I think it's great that we'll all be looking at this stuff far more closely than perhaps we did previously. Not before time. I welcome it because it has long been my contention that the inception of the TAB and the advent of very widespread off track betting has produced entire generations of Punters that have effectively missed some crucial schooling.
Their understanding of racing is IMO not anywhere near what it would be had they been more widely exposed to wagering & watching races from trackside...and as a result I think the general standard of Stewarding has dropped away accordingly as they're also not being called to account by the Punters any more than the drivers who do such things are called to account by the Punters.
By that I mean these days there seems to be many thousands of Punters who couldn't read race tactics as they pertain to the individual horses involved & their respective capabilities...if their lives depended upon it.
I can very vividly recall some extremely loud and angry on-course Punter protests when certain things happened in a race that they picked up on as being not entirely on the up & up.
Those guys were seasoned race-goers, they knew exactly what they were looking at and they'd hang over the fence and absolutely give it to the driver or drivers they felt had stiffed them.
These days by comparision the Punters are a very, very mild bunch indeed. Half the time I am sure they don't even notice dodgy happenings and unfortunately in some instances so go (legitametly) some of the Stewards to boot.
