Only two years ago it would have been the 8th month of the season. And the winner is still an October foal.

But 2yo's did not race for the first couple of months.
Vic's first 2yo race was generally at the end of the 4th month at Maryborough
Maybe I should have just highlighted a 2yo rating 1.52.8 at his 2nd start

The NSWHRC paid a fortune of its members money to buy the Southern Hemisphere breeding rights and the horse stood at Yirrabee Stud for its first two seasons. For some reason, it fired blanks which resulted in only 75 Australian foals. NZ breeders fared even worse with only 19 2yos resulting from 75 matings. Only 8 mares were bred to him the following season as word spread quickly that something was seriously amiss.

NSWHRC, desperate to cut its losses and save some face, bundled the horse off to a reluctant Alabar. Alabar was smart enough to stand the horse in NZ's more moderate climate where he covered 108 mares for 54 live foals (50% fertility) and covered 124 in the just completed season.

Alabar has improved Lazarus' fertility rate from totally uncommercial to poor or borderline commercial.

Nobody will be surprised that Lazarus Sires quality winners. The question remains would you chace your money to breed to him with the knowledge you have only a coin toss chance of getting a live foal?
