I am just adding these barrier stats now as I think they are what Bruce was referring to.
These are the Melton Pacers Barrier Stats for Metro Mob Races with a minimum of 8 starters for the 5mths between Sep and Feb this year - there were 86 races that met this criteria
Barrier (comment is bell posn)
1 - 6 wins - 5 as leader
2 - 14 wins - 6 as leader, 4 running line, 3 on pegs, 1 death
3 - 8 wins - 7 as leader
4 - 6 wins - 3 as leader, 2 on pegs, 1 death
5 - 10 wins - 6 as leader, 1 running line, 1 pegs, 1 death, 1 3W
6 - 10 wins - 6 as leader, 2 on pegs, I death, 1 3W
7 - 7wins - 1 as leader, 1 running line, 1 pegs, 1 death, 3 3W
8 - 4 wins - 3 on pegs, 1 death
9 - 6 wins - 1 as leader, 1 running line, 3 pegs, 1 death
10 - 7 wins - 4 running line, 3 death
11+ - 8 wins - 2 running line, 6 3W
The sample is not big but I wanted to use the criteria I set, thinking I may get a fairly even spread of runners and with no <8 starter races unfairly skewing things
It is interesting to see a fairly even spread but to note the fairly ordinary number from barrier 1, the predominance of leaders vs the lack of winners from the running line (except for barriers 2 and 10) and death
