Gloucester Park was on fire last night. Pinny Tiger's 1:51:2 smashed Chicago Bull's 1730 metre track record of 1:51:6. Sangue Reale's 1:53:0 for 2130 metres was just outside Vampiro's track record. Harness racing at its best.

Finally catching up with Monday's Maryborough replays
R7 5yo mare Imperial Reason's run of 1.54.2 over 2190m was very impressive and < a second outside the Tk Rec

Jason Grimson sure has improved Betterzippit, his NZ record last season was 1 win from 15 starts, his Oz record this season is 5 wins from 6 starts and he went 1.48.6 at Menangle on Saturday night

    Cue Pauline Hanson.

Find out what the horse was given on the plane from NZ FIVE days before winning first-up at Melton. Horses just don't go from Spark Plug to superstar in the manner our kowtowing, compliant and industry paid media give lip service to. I will never bet on another trots race until our "leaders" stop lecturing us about "integrity" while this BS goes on unhindered. This is just as bad as the Tassie situation but with more pleasant optics.

Nothing to see, He has just perfected the "recipe to success". It's definitely an excellent recipe.

I don't follow NZ but know that you do Trev. This latest win is probably not so much of a surprise as his instant improvement on arriving with the easy Ballarat win after just 5 days and the even better win in the Melton Final after just 12 days - you could say these runs over middle distances suggested he could run the time he did for the Menangle mile.

There have been a few NZ 5yo's come across lately and done well, such as the Gath's Outlaw Man and Whisky Cavalier but looking at the backing for him eg Ballarat, I am wondering whether he was considered a better horse than these other two back in NZ. I hate to think what some of the NZers who were giving him a hiding last season would do over here

Whiskey Cavalier won first up in a metro race at Melton 4 weeks after hopping on a plane in NZ. Rangiora (Canterbury) trained, had won 4 of 17, importantly his last at start 15 in 1.57.5 over 1980 at Addington. Sale assured, as an R62 rating. Consistent since running mile rates at least a second quicker, as all our tracks are.

Outlaw Man won only 4 of 27 for the highly regarded Cambridge trainer, Arna Donnelly.

Fronts up and wins at Melton just 21 days (! - are you there, PP?) After being cleared mid-November, not having won since April. Only rated R55 in NZ, so an easy to place horse amongst camels in Victoria. Another Sweet Lou, so plenty of speed but stamina optional. Wins 8 from 13 here, yet to be tested beyond 2240m.

These horses always get to race well within their class in Victoria, unlike NZ. I watched the Group 3 FFA from Addington last Friday, 8 starters over 1980m. Krug, 20 wis from 50 starts, multiple Gp 1 wins and nearly $700k banked. Barriers 1 & 2 a pair of 4yo's, Lumen Caellli, 4 wins from 11 starts. Next to him, Bollinger 5 from 16 but 100 grand earnt. Krug, who is at his nut case worst, slingshots out of the gate, looked unbeatable half way down the back, then called it a day as Bollinger raced to the lead halfway around the turn, bolts in.
For that effort, he is now an R72, 10 points more than Whiskey Cavalier was from the same number of race starts. Would Whiskey Cavalier have won like Bollinger did? No way known. But he can be placed to advantage in Australia. Bollinger is likely to run in a $45k FFA over 2600m Saturday night. While that is another big ask, at least his star stablemate Akuta is competing on the North Island!

That highlights another reason why so many Kiwis end over here, no 4yo Sires Stake scheme, very few feature 4 yo races and mares - forget it. Sold if they're good enough or bred from if they've earned enough to be commercial.

But none of them can rationally impove "naturally" like Bettorzippit.

3yo Swift Watch won his first start by 30m at Echuca tonight - if that was not enough, he rated 1.57.2 for the 2160m which is only 0.6 secs outside the Tk Rec
