That is very sad news indeed. He was a great horse, and as it's been said over and over, a real people's horse. When the Goulburn Harness Racing Club got going again about 8 years ago now, in our second year we set in place our first feature race it being the Frank Day Goulburn Cup. It was held on Thursday afternoon the 14 January, 2010 and Barry Lew gave us a huge boost by bringing down Karloo Mick for the event. For a Thursday afternoon we had a huge crowd in attendance, and the vast majority came out to see 'Mick'. Naturally he started a short priced favourite, won with ease and set a track record for the 2240 metre distance. While it's been broken a few times since, his win that day typified the horse he was; headed down the back straight on the last occasioned, he rallied back strongly to regain the lead turning for home, and then drew away to win by over 11 metres ( http://media.harness.org.au/nsw/LMC14011001.wmv ).
Great horse, and great people. A sad day
Cheers
