Dan what do you think about making the subsequent acceptances of noms for trials/races dependent on having lodged a return to work come stable return? The function is already there for horses to be made ODM etc. Is it a great leap of faith to make lodging a return to work/stable return a prerequisite to racing ala completing a couple of trials or whatever?

Now that all trials nominations are managed by the HRNSW that would seem a logical extension, I would not ignore VORs earlier comment however if these functions were required/mandatory then they would obviously be carried out by trainers. Bit like scrubbing horses off your stable list, if it'd been mandatory then I would have scrubbed those horses 20 years ago that were earlier mentioned.

You and hundreds of others unfortunately, but we might get lucky and even this thread might make a few people check, once that was done the other idea could be implemented, I know the gallops were on about it a few years back for the same programming reasons, however I am not sure they went on with it.

Actually great to see VVV promoting ideas form the dark side.

Don't get too excited VOR. I'm just angling for a job @ ILGA.

[VVV] I don't much like the idea of trainers being fined for not lodging such a form ( fines being way too often the default position for Regulatory) so that would have to be hit on the head straight away.
Rather it should be that the 'free to race box' or whatever it might be called...it doesn't get ticked until such time as they do get lodged. That way there's no inference of revenue raising or anything like that to go along with it. Instead it just becomes par for the course for a horse coming back into work/ in the lead up to it having a trial and/or a race start.
Along with giving the Handicappers & Clubs a much better idea of exactly what horses are out there and roughly how long it will be before they will present to race, a Return To Work aspect to the Stable Return would also have the benefit of Handicappers/Clubs being able to greatly shorten the period for which they currently program races. Instead of knocking them out for some 2 or even 3 months in advance that extra information at the fingertips would allow them to shorten that lead in period to a month or even less in some instances. Some real time info in this area would be extremely useful. More races would stand up, more horses would get a start.

For what it is worth...and given the way Ontario harness racing is headed...it may not count for much any more, any trainer bringing a horse onto the grounds to be stabled at Mohawk and/or Woodbine completes a 'stable-type return' that has a box asking READY TO RACE DATE. Seems a pretty simple and logical idea to introduce it here too! Anything that allows for races to be programmed to be drawn with full fields seems beneficial.
