    Ararat review

Ararat are really endeavouring to put on a good show
    They had punters club,
a Pick the last 5 winners competition in the Race book
Pony trots. (With trophy presentation thanks to Allbenz and great to see a pic taken with Kerryn and all kids - I hope they all get a copy)
Double sulky rides (I should have however asked how you got one)
They still have a replay TV for the last race run near the bar (albeit an antique Teac set) - not always a given nowadays
No scones but if you ask if they have anything sweet they will cook up some donuts (need a menu up)

It is a great old track for viewing and there were more than a few there although I think they would all have to be locals as even though I knew roughly where the track is, there was not a single street sign to help me find it (I must have followed a float last time!)

Oh yeah there was racing on too

Paying Your Way did just that in the first
Lucky Metro having her 27th outing notched up her maiden win by 43m and made the owners of all the other runners feel very unlucky
Those who remembered that half of all harness odds on pops lose might have turned a nice profit if they found Ships Spur as he paid $35 first up for 9mths in the trot
Liston was never going down in this bout and won the claimers - check out Jason Lee's early celebration - not sure what the reason was. He has been on a hot streak and the driver's chronicles for this year has him on 21 but who knows when that was last updated - I am guessing he just outdrove his claim or something (Anyone know?) - it was quite a celebration for a claimers!
Kerryn made extricating Odds on pop Nokomai from his tricky draw look easy (but it is not always so - see last)
Mad Robber was another easy enough Odds On winner and looking at his breeding was the most interesting I researched between races today. He is buy a Cam Fella line stallion (Robin Hood - hence the 'robber') out of a Beach Towel mare. Beach Towel's greatest offspring is of course Jennas Beach Boy who is out of a Cam Fella mare so you could say Mad Robber is trying the reverse.
Keayang Starzz first up for 10mths will probably continue to be a Star
Emma Jade getting up in the last and final leg of the quaddie gave Jason Lee a driving treble but made sure punters club members left feeling jaded (Forget The Gun Rockstar ever went around)

The replays are still not through so maybe if you are reading this tomorrow, you will get to see JL's celebration

Kev, I heard Dan mention that Jason was celebrating in honour of his Grandfather.

As usual, I couldn't hear Dan very well on track. Jason certainly honoured his grandpa by notching up a treble for the day

A good old venue Kev. I called a meeting there once around this time of year. I remember a real nice meal in the downstairs area too!

I don't know - it seems some blokes just go to the trots for the food

Looking at the replays now (and hearing them!), I see what an excellent drive Zac Phillips's was on Paying Your Way in the first albeit with a little help from Sketchman/Michelle Wight

One thing I did enjoy doing when I worked at a new venue was to get a few photos, which I did at Ararat. It was four years ago this week that I visited.

Something about the stand reminds me of the Showgrounds Kyle. The support columns interrupt viewing a bit if you are in the back half of the stand - the Showgrounds must have had them too but funnily I do not remember anything but the best of views (Bring Back The Showies!)
